Raising a King [Western Fantasy]

Mera was a witch everyone loved to hate. For some peace and quiet, she moved deep into the Dark Forest, where no one dared to visit. Usually, her only company was her pet raven.

But one day, after she found a little prince with golden hair and golden eyes, Mera had to figure out how to raise a child in between researching spells, brewing potions, and gathering ingredients.

Lex never thought he would be rescued, much less by a witch.

According to the Church, witches were the very definition of sinister and cruel, sweet-tongued yet treacherous. They had to be bound to the gallows and burned to ashes to stop them from doing more evil.

But Lex had no choice.

If the witch before him, her tousled red hair hanging down her back and her eyes greener than a deep pool choked with water weeds, was willing to help him take revenge, fight his way back to the royal capital, reclaim his throne, and make his enemies fall at his feet, weeping and begging for his forgiveness, then Lex was willing to stake the honor of the royal family and his own life on an unequal pact with her.

Once it was done, he would gladly lay before her priceless jewels, the mountains of gold and silver in the royal treasury, and even noble titles and vast estates.

"What a shame. I'm not interested in any of that." The beautiful witch smiled as she turned down Lex's offer.

"Your revenge has nothing to do with me."

Later, the handsome, golden-haired king sat upon a throne forged in blood and fire. A half-lidded glance from him was enough to make the ministers below tremble, afraid that one of them might accidentally anger the young lion.

Then, after a long wait, the king suddenly asked, "Actually, no one ever said the queen has to stay in the palace. She can choose to live however she wants, can't she?"

Even if she liked staying in the forest, studying strange and unusual potions and being a witch with a whole head full of wicked ideas, that was fine.

He would bow his proud head, take off his dazzling crown, and gladly let her order him around.

All for a moment of the witch's favor.

Fortunately, thanks to the law of conservation of luck, Lilu could still get all kinds of magical items through card draws.

A tiny fragment of a red dragon's broken claw, a young mermaid's shed scale, a ribbon once used to tie up an elf prince's hair... Lilu stared in disbelief at the pile of junk before her, unable to imagine what any of it was for.

Just as Lilu was about to despair, she suddenly discovered that these materials could be combined. Without much hope, she tossed three pieces of junk into the crafting slot, thinking that after such an unlucky day, surely she could at least make something that might be useful.

A few ordinary-sounding dings and clunks rang out, and a dagger appeared out of thin air in front of her.

[ Ding! Congratulations! You obtained a sharp dagger. It can slice stone as easily as tofu, and even inflict a minor injury on the thickest-skinned dragons on the continent! ]

Clutching the dagger, Lilu was almost moved to tears. She finally had her first weapon!

Her adventure in another world was finally beginning.

The mermaid rescued a little girl who had accidentally fallen into the water, then slipped back into the sea like something from a fairy tale before anyone else could find out.

That beautiful figure seemed like a dream.

The surging seawater rushed into Shen Suxin's nose, throat, and lungs.

As her oxygen ran out, her consciousness began to fade, and the world before her eyes blurred.

Was she going to die?

Shen Suxin let herself sink, drifting farther and farther from the surface.

It seemed the Grim Reaper was already whispering in her ear, but then a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her from death's embrace.

Shen Suxin broke through the surface. As she gulped in air, she grabbed the mermaid's wrist, her smile revealed at the same moment the fishing net came down:

"I've got you."

Reading Guide:

1. Although the blurb is mostly from the male lead's perspective, the novel as a whole is primarily told from the female lead's perspective. It won't be all romance; she has her own storyline.

2. Chapter comments are open!

3. Although this is set in a Western Fantasy world, the male lead won't reveal his feelings before he comes of age.
