[One Piece] A Childhood Friend Is a Gimme

Shanks is an idiot.

Igo repeated those few syllables over and over, teaching them to Uta dozens of times. Then she carried her outside, and, as Shanks watched with eager anticipation, little Uta stammered out the first words of her life.

Shanks is an idiot.

Igo had known that all too well ever since she first boarded the Oro Jackson.

That red-haired, foolish, boisterous puppy either followed her around all day or made her chase him. In short, he never stayed still. Even Buggy, who was just as energetic as the others his age, couldn't help thinking Shanks and Igo were incredibly lively, especially when their nighttime roughhousing nearly drove him to his grave.

Just over a pillow, they could grab each other's hair and kick at each other's legs, fighting from the bed to the floor. By the end of their play, even Buggy's pillow had burst, sending feathers swirling everywhere. Their mischief gave Rayleigh no end of headaches.

"That's not how you hold a baby, idiot!"

"You don't know how to hold her either, Igo!"

"Idiot, idiot, idiot!"

"Bounces back, bounces back, bounces back!"

They'd carried on like this all the way from the Oro Jackson to the Red Force. Roger used to watch them bicker, and now Beckman and Uta watched. As for the future...

Who cares about the future? The fact that Shanks is an idiot will never change, not in this lifetime.

Igo smugly held little Uta and watched Shanks's expression fall. Then, in the blink of an eye, Uta called her "Mama" in her baby voice.

"..."

"Didn't see that coming, huh? Hahaha! I taught her that too!"

"Uta! Say this after me: 'Bas-tard.'"

"What?! Uta, bounce back, bounce back, bounce back!"

"Stop teaching her things, all of you!"

An enraged Beckman snatched the babbling child away and kicked Shanks off the ship.

※ Updates whenever I feel like it. If we meet, it was fate.

Premise: Childhood friends are basically spouses!
