The rule says, "Buddha cannot save an evil ghost."
Yet the Ancient Buddha saved a peerless evil ghost, one who made immortals gnash their teeth and ordinary people curse in anger. He was punished by Heaven, perishing and vanishing, and the evil ghost disappeared without a trace.
Six hundred years later, the Wu family of Lingnan found that nothing went their way. A sickly child was born to them and survived only because he was taken in by a temple.
Everyone laughed at the Wu family, who had grown wealthy by worshipping a wild Buddha, saying their blessings had run out and that fortune had turned to misfortune. Little did they know that Wu Ningyu was born with the nature of a Buddha, and that once his merits were complete, he would surely ascend to the grand hall.
After spending twenty years at the temple, Wu Ningyu followed the abbot's instructions and went to retrieve the wild Buddha, hoping to free the Wu family from its misfortunes.
But the Buddha was nowhere to be found. Looking at the shrine where a little ghost had usurped the Buddha's place, Wu Ningyu recalled the abbot's words: "This wild Buddha really is wild. He doesn't like sitting quietly as a Buddha. He prefers to meddle in other people's affairs."
So Wu Ningyu went wherever trouble arose, searching for the Buddha and bringing him back to his shrine.
He failed to find the Buddha, but the half-baked fellow he had casually rescued suddenly latched on to him.
Gong Rangchen always followed the same rules when fighting: provoke first, fight next, then run away. Whenever danger came, he would charge in first, only to discover he couldn't win the fight or the argument, then make a big fuss as he hid behind Wu Ningyu.
Wu Ningyu merely thought of him as a noisy, stale source of amusement and paid him little mind. Until one night, he saw Gong Rangchen pinning the lifeline of the evil spirit that had troubled him for so long. With a gloomy, terrifying expression and a low, dangerous voice, it was hard to tell which of them was the evil spirit.
"You're in the way." The talisman burst into a ghostly blue flame, engulfing the evil spirit. Gong Rangchen curled his lips and glanced over his shoulder.
But Wu Ningyu remained unmoved, lost in thought as he stared at the faint, ethereal Buddha mark between Gong Rangchen's brows.
·A cool, desireless half-Buddha shou, whose combat prowess swings wildly between off the charts and storming off × A half-baked demon hunter gong, seemingly a grinning, frivolous playboy but secretly a scheming yandere·
PS:
1. In their previous lives, the leads were a Buddha and a ghost.
2. Both are strong. The gong may seem unreliable, but he really is dependable!
