Hagiwara Wants to Know, Too

Hagiwara: exploded in an instant, not a trace left behind.

The good news: he was reborn.

The bad news: he was a semi-transparent ghost who came with a built-in ability to walk through walls.

The even worse news: some self-proclaimed System was looping the same message in a mechanical voice: "Do ten good deeds to be revived. Current progress: 0/10."

Hagiwara: How am I supposed to do good deeds if nobody can see me?

System: Then get revived.

Hagiwara: How do I get revived?

System: Do ten good deeds to be revived. Current progress: 0/10.

Hagiwara: Nobody can see me... Is that what you think a logical loop is for?

And so, an urban legend began circulating through the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department:

Matsuda found his coffee cup flying around every morning.

Traffic division rookies' tickets were caught by the wind and delivered with pinpoint accuracy as paper airplanes.

At every explosion site, there seemed to be an invisible hand at work.

Until one day, the floating ghost suddenly became tangible, tying up a robber who had fainted in terror like a rice dumpling...

"You can see me, can't you, sir?"

Hagiwara Kenji gave someone a genial customer-service smile.

PS: Matsuda always feels like his childhood friend isn't quite dead. His proof: whenever he stays up late writing reports, the keyboard mysteriously starts typing gibberish on its own.
