Synopsis
Your name is Hill, and you're a bat demon from China.
After the saying that demons couldn't cultivate human forms in China after the founding of the country became law, you packed your things and promptly rolled out of your cave.
Though the saying restricted demons born after the founding of the country, it also had a powerful suppressive effect on demons like you, who had only just managed to take human form before then.
What's more, you're a little demon who's practically disabled. Your eyesight is poor. That's common among your kind, and becoming a demon didn't change it.
Your sense of smell and other senses stopped working properly after you went down the mountain once and got beaten by cultivators rushing to meet their year-end quotas. You could no longer even tell humans and demons apart.
In China, where things were already incredibly difficult for demons, there was no way you could survive in your condition.
So you promptly packed up and followed a powerful demon who happened to be heading out of the country, sneaking abroad with it.
You refused to believe that the thing could still restrict you overseas!
Besides, there were hardly any demons in foreign countries, and even the few that existed weren't very powerful.
The powerful demon was very kind, and plenty of other little demons had snuck abroad with you, but it seemed most of them had already decided where to go.
One after another, they turned out to have connections back home or relatives overseas.
Only you were alone, with nothing but the haphazard luggage you'd brought along.
A storage pouch, a packet of spicy strips from the powerful demon, and a battered flashlight.
You'd picked up the flashlight on the road, too.
Oh, right, that was everything you owned.
The powerful demon was really kind. It even asked where you wanted to go.
You were touched, but you knew absolutely nothing about the world overseas.
In the end, you asked the powerful demon:
Was there anywhere that got almost no sunlight all year round, somewhere dark, damp, and extremely gloomy?
The powerful demon thought for a moment, then nodded.
Your eyes lit up.
After the powerful demon dropped you in the city called Gotham, you felt like you were home for the first time in ages. This place was practically a heavenly grotto made just for you!
You quickly built yourself a nest in Gotham, and decided not to leave it again until the powerful demon came to visit.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.
One night, you heard an incredibly important word.
"Batman."
Before you snuck abroad, the kind demons had passed along the languages spoken outside. Sharing language among demons was easy: it was etched into a spirit pearl, and all you had to do was tap it against your forehead.
Though the demon who passed the language to you hadn't mastered it very well, you still managed to figure out the meaning through your own translation.
Bat person.
Your eyes went wide.
A member of your kind in a foreign land!?
Well, the name did sound a little like a cross between a bat and a human... but you didn't care.
You weren't a conservative demon. If both parties were willing, there was nothing wrong with it.
Your heart began to race.
You'd been living on your own since you were a hatchling, struggling your way through life, and you'd never met another of your kind.
The closest thing to your species you'd ever met was a vampire who'd snuck into China years ago.
And now! In a foreign land! You were about to meet one of your own!
To avoid acting rashly and alerting your target... ahem, to avoid letting your kin think you'd come to pick a fight, you secretly followed the "Bat Person" for quite a while, planning to visit once you'd prepared a gift.
But the longer you watched, the more wrong things seemed.
Though this half-breed was dressed all in black, had strange wings on its back, and two pointy ears on its head, it couldn't fly!
And when it fought members of other species, it only used its fists and feet! Otherwise, it relied on tools to fight back!
Most importantly!
After all these days of watching and sending out friendly signals again and again, you hadn't received the slightest response!
Didn't its parents look after it at all!?
Day after day, you silently counted the new injuries on the little half-breed. Finally, after it broke another bone and still tried to "turn the tables" on its rival species, you could no longer hold back and stepped in.
After bundling up and tossing aside the thing whose species you couldn't identify, you looked at the little half-breed, who eyed you warily, and said sternly:
"Little one, why are you out hunting all by yourself?"
Where's your big bat?
Batman, who was just about to capture a major villain: ...?
You looked at the little half-breed, who was more than a head taller than you. Your severe nearsightedness kept you from seeing its face clearly, but sound waves could.
So you adjusted your sound waves to a gentle, soothing frequency and sent a friendly signal across.
The other side didn't react at all. After eyeing you warily a few times, it even tried to tie up the thing you'd tossed aside.
Oh...
Good heavens, look at this poor child! It couldn't even respond to your sound waves! It had to pick up garbage to fill its stomach!
Look! Look at those weak, useless wings that couldn't fly! Its fragile hind legs couldn't even hang upside down! Its fangs hadn't even grown in properly!
You teared up.
You felt as though you were seeing your own childhood in this little black "hatchling," who looked like it could punch eighteen of you into the air with one fist.
You decided to take on the responsibility of caring for and teaching this little half-breed.
The first step was to clear away the dangerous, unstable factors around the little one.
For example...
That building called Arkham Asylum.
Some time later.
You looked at the even smaller hatchlings appearing around the little one and fell into deep thought.
Never mind.
Raising one is raising one. Raising a few is raising a few.
Hmm... Looks like you should clear out an even larger area for them.
The little ones would need more room to play.
A genuine Bat-baby story.
May contain some very dark jokes.
The female lead isn't human (literally).
But there definitely won't be any angst. The painful parts will be handled appropriately! Let's turn everything into sweet little treats! (Casting spell)
A story about family love in the Bat Family~
Not a single bat or bird will get hurt!
Theme: Smash the darkness with thunder
