I'm a perfectly ordinary student studying magic at a magic academy.
But one day, for some supposedly important reason involving “academic exchange” and “reform and opening up in the magical world,” my teacher promptly dragged me out and made me an “exchange student.”
Fine, an exchange student it is. The magical world has more than one school, after all. It just means I'll keep studying magic somewhere else.
Wait... hold on. What did you say?
I'm being exchanged to an ordinary school, where normal people study all kinds of bizarre subjects with absolutely no magic in them?!
Ha.
I'm going home. Grandma's calling me from the library to come help with the farm.
It can't be helped. When Heaven is about to entrust someone with a great mission... Never mind, I can't finish that line.
Anyway, to calm me down, the academy prepared lots of compensation that I was very happy with. And to keep the magical side from being exposed too soon and help it blend in gradually, they even prepared a necklace for me.
A necklace that, once I put it on, would let other people automatically reinterpret anything weird I did, or any extraordinary spells I cast, as actions and knowledge they could understand. (Take a deep breath.)
But before I left, my teacher told me the necklace did have one small flaw.
It couldn't change the perceptions of people with exceptionally strong wills.
Like superheroes.
I scoffed at that.
Ha.
As if someone like me, an “ordinary exchange student,” could just run into superheroes wherever I went. Give me a break.
I'll say it right here!
Unless New York is crawling with heroes, there's no way I'll ever expose my true identity!!
In the end, thanks to a series of arrangements by the academy, I successfully became an ordinary student at Midtown High in New York.
Hey, I take back what I said earlier.
The story is told in third person. The pairing isn't set yet, but it's probably Spider-Man (www).
There are lots of original takes, and there won't be any angst!!
It's a sweet little story, and all the painful bits get fixed up like that~
