The boldest thing Yan Wan ever did was bite He Yan's Adam's apple atop Wuyi Mountain during summer vacation, under cover of the endless night.

When the lights came back on, Yan Wan retreated to her place as a humble secret admirer. She removed her hearing aids and shut out the noise of the crowd.

It was an act of spite, and a farewell.

She thought her secret crush would remain a dark, buried memory. She never expected to meet He Yan again.

They reunited in the capital at an investor's celebration banquet.

The boy who had left for the other side of the ocean as soon as he finished his second year of high school had become the capital's crown prince, surrounded by admirers.

Yan Wan immediately spotted the hidden scar on He Yan's pale, prominent Adam's apple.

Noticing her gaze, the man's flirtatious, peach-blossom eyes lifted slightly. His thin lips curved in a faint smile.

His gaze seemed to settle on Yan Wan's direction as he explained in a casual tone,

"A stray cat bit me the year I graduated. I don't know why it was so fierce."

Later, He Yan forcefully barged into Yan Wan's life. She kept backing away, then suddenly realized she was experiencing a romance like a home invasion, with the person who had occupied her entire youth as her secret crush.

The capital's neon lights shimmered late into the night. He Yan held the woman in his arms and kissed her passionately. Yan Wan asked him, "How did you know it was me?"

He Yan stopped kissing her and leaned back against the sofa, his voice muffled. "How was I supposed to know someone would just come up and bite my Adam's apple? I thought about it year after year. For those two years overseas, every time another girl touched me, I felt like I was cheating!"

Reader's guide:

1. One-on-one romance, both leads' first and only partners. To be clear, the hero is a fake playboy. Because of his family, he doesn't care about his reputation. He has a lot of rumored girlfriends early on, but he has never actually dated any of them! Never!

2. The heroine is far ahead of everyone academically, an absolute top student.

3. The Adam's apple-biting setup is an exaggerated fictional device. Don't imitate it or scrutinize it too much. I'm writing a romance novel, so cut me some slack.

4. The hero's reputation is bad only because he doesn't bother to explain, not because the rumors are true. Others misunderstood. He was forced into contact with the second female lead, but he avoided her and warned her. He also had a reason for meeting her. And one more thing! Jiang Xue isn't his childhood friend, she's his older brother's girlfriend. Please finish reading before you criticize me. I really don't know what else to do.
