Forced to Become a Student's Canary

At first: A taciturn, obsessive student starved for love x A gentle, considerate teacher who is deep in the closet and unfeeling

Later: Sugar mommy x kept woman

In an upscale cafe with warm yellow lighting, Song Chu, wearing a white T-shirt washed out of shape, sat awkwardly in the corner of a sofa, clutching the kept-woman contract her former student, Zhao Yusheng, had shoved across the table.

"Teacher, once I've made you sick of me too, we'll end this relationship."

Song Chu is the only female teacher in Shui Town. One day, Zhao Yusheng, the only student from the town ever to make it out, returns to work as a volunteer teacher.

Zhao Yusheng once loved her, but Song Chu stamped out that relationship before it could take root.

"Zhao Yusheng, you're my student."

"Zhao Yusheng, I'm going to get married and have children one day."

"Zhao Yusheng, homosexuality disgusts me."

Now, Zhao Yusheng has become her colleague.

In the damp, shadowy corner by a window, its walls covered in moss; in a classroom corner where orange sunlight spills in and the wind stirs the curtains; or on the hard bed in Song Chu's home, its sheets steeped in the scent of oranges.

Everywhere, there are Zhao Yusheng's forceful, feverish kisses and Song Chu's restrained, heavy breaths.

Afterward, Zhao Yusheng always humiliates her, gripping her by the throat as she says:

"Teacher, we're colleagues now."

"Teacher, you still haven't gotten married or had children."

"Teacher, you're soaking wet beneath the very lesbian you find so disgusting."

Zhao Yusheng's cruel words always make Song Chu's heart tremble, and all she can do is push her away again and again.

The day the town's only old school was demolished, Song Chu lost her job and her income. With no other choice, she went to the capital to work part-time from morning till night. Her student Zhao Yusheng, however, was an illegitimate daughter of one of the capital's most powerful families.

All Zhao Yusheng has to do is lift a finger to rebuild the old school campus in town. Her only condition is that Song Chu become her lover.
