Inspired by the work of an estate-clearance specialist and Lobotomy Corporation's Funeral of the Dead Butterflies. You don't need to have played the game to understand this; I only borrowed the Funeral of the Dead Butterflies setting.
No pairing. I like Boss Dazai, but only after he has died. The protagonist transmigrates into the main world, where different experiences have shaped different people, so neither Black Dazai nor Armed Detective Agency Dazai is the person he loves.
The protagonist's name comes from the 296-meter-tall □□ building: it takes only 7.7 seconds to jump from the top. In this world, he is the only one who still remembers everything.
Someone once asked him, "What a strange name. Is it a measure of time?" He only smiled and said nothing.
The leader of the dark night is dead. As an estate-clearance specialist, he is invited by the new leader, Nakahara Chuuya, to sort through the former leader's belongings. In the room where traces of his life remain, he slowly comes to understand the former leader. And then he falls in love with someone who is already dead. After all, it was Dazai. He couldn't possibly have left behind many traces of a life... There weren't many belongings, and I can't be counted among them.
A strange person whose work is with the dead has come to Yokohama. But in a place like Yokohama, both such people and such work are strange. Many people die in clashes between the various factions, but those who enter the underworld have no choice, and no one holds funerals for them. His unusual presence also attracts the attention of the local factions.
And I call myself a suicide.
Ability: Funeral of the Dead Butterflies. Black-and-white butterflies fly out of the coffin. The white butterflies settle on the bodies, and the dead wear peaceful expressions. They leave this world of suffering, turn into black-and-white butterflies, and disappear. They die in the butterflies' embrace, as if they have become beautiful little creatures with tiny wings.
"Where do people go after they die?"
"For those about to leave this world, the way they die is their final dignity."
"If people are destined to die, call for me. I will give them a better death."
The black suit will never fade. The heavy coffin will never truly break. The wish for death will never truly come true.
A mourner's heart cannot tolerate the slightest levity. The solemn guns carry their grief.
The black gun salutes the dead; the white gun points at the living.
A funeral needs solemnity, not spectacle.
Author's notes and content warnings:
1. His weapons are his coffin and the Holy Proclamation, a pair of black and white guns. When the coffin isn't being used for his ability, it contains the stolen corpse of the former leader. When he uses his ability, it holds butterflies.
2. If anything doesn't match canon, consider it my headcanon.
3. I posted this for myself to look at because I thought the idea fit. I don't know if it counts as a bad ending. Boss Dazai doesn't even know this person exists, but I tagged it as pure love because it's a BL story, um...
4. The main world has no pairing, since there's no Boss Dazai there. Dazai before the age of fourteen is the same. Everything changes after he gets the book, so the protagonist can only see Dazai at that point, on that day. After that, they become completely different people.
5. Any similarities are coincidental. I've read plenty of fanfiction, but haven't seen any combining Lobotomy Corporation and Bungo Stray Dogs. Though I have read Lobotomy Corporation and Jujutsu Kaisen. And this is estate clearance, Lobotomy Corporation, and a Bungo Stray Dogs what-if, so the odds of a crossover are practically zero, right?
6. I'll take it down if asked. I only posted it for my own amusement. I'm not making money or doing anything else with it. I just wanted to look at it myself, since I wrote it in my memo app with no one to share it with.
7. I'll add more if I think of anything. Not that anyone's reading it anyway, to be honest. ()()
