The Greedy Hound

Chi Wu has a dog collar around his neck that he can't take off.

On the first day of every month, he kneels before the shrine and bows his head, his face blank.

He burns seven incense sticks over the course of three days.

At some point, he begins talking to himself now and then, either to the damp, dark walls of his room or to the door that no one ever opens.

One day,

that dog collar breaks.

But the dog that had been trapped for so long is sent to a mental institution.

No wind, no rain, no sun on the way there.

At the mental institution, he sees someone who died three years ago.

-

Yu Nan has a dog.

The dog often lies in his lap, staring into space.

One day, the usually docile dog starts barking wildly at a corner.

Someone had told Yu Nan long ago:

His house is in a bad location. It used to be a site meant for a mental institution.

But there, Yu Nan sees a bone that cries out in pain.

And a dog, biting down on the bone.

Note: This story is healthy and wholesome. The dog collar is not used inappropriately.
