He Nianchu was a woman who slaughtered pigs.
Throwing tantrums, rolling around, and swearing were the color of her everyday life.
Then one day, a group of graceful cultivators arrived at her door. He Nianchu was told she was the daughter of the Kunlun Mountain Lord. On the day she was born, a wicked servant had switched her with another baby, and she had been left to live among ordinary people ever since.
Now that the truth had come to light and the wicked servant had been executed, the cultivators had come to take her back to the cultivation world.
The cultivation world sounded great!
If you could become an immortal, who would want to stay human?
At last, she was going to enjoy a fortune beyond her wildest dreams!
He Nianchu became the junior sister of Kunlun Mountain.
But no matter how hard she tried or how diligently she cultivated, the cultivators always looked down at her with pity and sighed, "You're not as good as Wen Zhengzheng."
Wen Zhengzheng was the girl who had been switched with He Nianchu at birth.
He Nianchu naturally disliked Wen Zhengzheng.
When Wen Zhengzheng bought a new hairpin and dress, He Nianchu had to buy them, too.
When Wen Zhengzheng got a spirit pet, He Nianchu had to get one, too.
When Wen Zhengzheng went to a secret realm to search for treasure, He Nianchu had to go, too.
When Wen Zhengzheng went down the mountain to complete a mission, He Nianchu had to go, too.
When Wen Zhengzheng did anything... He Nianchu had to do it, too...
In short, He Nianchu simply couldn't stand being a step behind Wen Zhengzheng.
But things often went awry, and her efforts brought more loss than gain. The more He Nianchu wanted something, the less likely she was to get it.
Even her birth parents often praised Wen Zhengzheng.
He Nianchu was like a clown, a green leaf meant to set off the flower that was Wen Zhengzheng.
Everyone liked Wen Zhengzheng, except for the third senior brother, Cen Ji.
Cen Ji felt sorry for all the suffering He Nianchu had endured. His gaze was always indulgent and patient.
Whenever she faced a problem she couldn't solve, He Nianchu would say, "Third Senior Brother, teach me."
Cen Ji would always go over and teach her, helpless but fond.
Later, on the Cliff of Absolute Immortals, He Nianchu threw herself toward Cen Ji, tears streaming down her face, looking pitiful enough to move anyone: "Third Senior Brother, save me."
Cen Ji endured the pain and cut the Glazed Heart from his own body to give to her.
After absorbing the Glazed Heart, He Nianchu's cultivation advanced by leaps and bounds. At last, she reached the pinnacle, and everyone had to look up to her, worship her, and depend on her.
Later still, she turned around, looking for the familiar figure so she could share her joy at succeeding.
All she found was a lonely grave.
While she lived in glory and celebration, he endured bone-deep agony day and night. Until his death, he worried that she might be bullied again.
"Third Senior Brother, please help me."
He Nianchu murmured.
But there was no answer.
*
When time turned back, He Nianchu no longer tried to compete with Wen Zhengzheng or outshine her. Smiling, she paid her respects to Cen Ji and solemnly promised, "Third Senior Brother, I'll treat you well from now on."
