The day Shen Mian first met Su He, a wildfire sprang up in the damp, gloomy spring.

The rain in the south always seems to go on forever.

That rainy season, a shocking piece of news rocked the whole city: the eldest daughter of the richest Su family had been kidnapped on her way to school. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of fifty million, threatening to kill her if it wasn't paid.

The head of the Su family turned livid and publicly denounced the claim as a fabrication.

The reporters surrounding the Su residence were skeptical, but the eldest Miss Su was nowhere to be seen.

It seemed less like a kidnapping and more like a conspiracy in a wealthy family's feud.

Just as everyone thought the eldest Miss Su, born to the former wife, would be buried without a trace in some remote mountain,

someone appeared, slowly approaching with the battered young girl on her back.

Su He always remembered how the camera flashes kept going that day, capturing her in all her wretchedness.

Amid the relentless questions and pursuit, the woman beside her was the only one who silently took off her coat and covered her tattered clothes.

Her steady, woody scent was like cool cedar after the rain.

Su He asked if they would meet again.

The woman merely raised the corner of her lips and answered in a clear, cool voice, “Su He, hold your head high.”

“Just keep moving forward.”

Years later, Shen Mian, an internationally renowned overseas correspondent, found a drunken little cat outside her hotel room.

Su He, now a top-tier star, had reddened eyes and clear, misty eyes. She looked fragile and broken.

She reached out, hooked a finger into the hem of Shen Mian's clothes, and murmured, “Look, it took me eight years, but I finally made my way back to you.”

Later, Shen Mian was invited to provide live commentary for a nationally televised competition. During a break in the event, she forgot to take off her microphone.

So viewers across the country heard loud and clear as the usually unsparing Reporter Shen took a call from her young girlfriend. Her cool voice melted into a tender laugh:

“I miss you too.”

The curious netizens were stunned and dug into the story all night. That day, the hashtag #ShenMian'sGirlfriendIsRumoredToBeActressSuHe stayed at the top of the trending list.

As the whole internet erupted, Su He simply posted on Weibo:

“That's right. I've had a crush on her for years. @Shen Mian”
