Opening a Wasteland General Store with a Little Octopus

Tao Ran transmigrated to a wasteland world. All he had to rely on to survive was his portable "General Store System." Dig up poisonous mutant taro, slice it, blanch it, then dry it to make [Traveler's Rations], which can be exchanged for [Core +1]. Chop down a menacing, clawing vine and bind it to a [Discarded Power Core] to obtain an [Automatic Capture Net], which can be exchanged for [Core +10]. Thanks to his little business, Tao Ran survived. He not only kept himself alive, but also cared for the little pet he had picked up: a tiny octopus missing two tentacles. The little octopus was quiet and well-behaved, with cool, springy skin. When Tao Ran was busy making items, it would stretch out its remaining little tentacles and do its best to help. Tao Ran liked the little octopus very much. On every stuffy, hot night, he had to hold it in his arms to sleep peacefully. * The items Tao Ran made became more and more wondrous. His general store made a name for itself in the wasteland world. More and more ability users came from far and wide, lining up at the entrance just to buy an [Exotic Beast Doll] that could repel Level 3 Mutants, or a cup of [Sleep-Inducing Herbal Tea] that restored mental power. But one day, the general store posted a notice: It would be moving immediately and operating in different districts on a rotating basis. The reason was that Tao Ran's only pet, the little octopus, had grown new tentacles and then vanished on the spot. Tao Ran wanted to find it. * Su Xiao, leader of the human settlement, was hailed as an "absolute rationalist" who had rebuilt the settlement's order through his own efforts. He had never imagined that one loss of control over his ability would turn him into an octopus with missing limbs and a clouded mind. He had never imagined that a young man would pick him up and take him home as a pet. But what surprised him most was that, after his mind had cleared, one day he would walk to the door of the general store and hesitate over whether to go in.
