A Journey with a Cat

Yi He plans to visit Bai Xi, her grandmother's hometown. While waiting to change trains at the high-speed rail station, she encounters a black cat swaggering its way inside. First, the black cat steals her ID card. Then it does everything short of asking outright for her to carry it to a cat cafe so it can scam some food and drink. And then, the black cat actually starts talking. "Are you going on a trip? I don't mind coming along!" At first, Yi He refuses. But then the clingy black cat says, "If you agree to take me with you, I can grant you a wish." Can a black cat really grant people's wishes? Yi He isn't so sure, but deep down, she finds herself wavering. In the end, she agrees after all. She takes the talking black cat along on her trip. Yi He soon realizes that this black cat is a complete glutton. It eyes the grilled cold noodles hungrily, can't get enough of the giant chicken drumsticks, and even laps up water from the river when it can't catch any fish. - Later, Yi He gives it a name: A Xuan. They go to the mountaintop to watch the sunrise. A Xuan says, "The sunrise is just like candied hawthorns, all red and warm..." They go to the riverbank to watch fireworks. A Xuan says, "I want to watch fireworks again someday. A hundred times!" It turns out this little cat can only count to a hundred. They go to a farmhouse garden to pick vegetables. A Xuan sneaks into a corner and secretly munches on crunchy cucumbers. When it's caught, it covers its eyes. "You can't see me, you can't see me..." They go to the beach to collect shells. A Xuan wants every one it sees. "This one's pretty, and so is this one!" - Later, they make it to Yi He's grandmother's hometown. At dusk, a girl and a cat sit together on a low wall. It soon wakes up and stares up at the statue of the deity in front of it. Miao Miao makes up its mind right then: when it dies, it will definitely go to heaven! So it needs to do a hundred good deeds while it's still alive. What should its first good deed be? For the first time, Miao Miao thinks really hard. It will start by getting off the offering table. - Miao Miao starts thinking about how to do good deeds. So it releases little fish, helps old ladies cross the road, and helps two dogs who can't stand each other make up...
