The author's completed modern school romance, Letting You Win One Subject Is No Big Deal, is part of a series.
Handsome, rebellious young master seme x smart, resilient top student uke
Also known as The Pure-Hearted Class Hunk's Dog-Training Manual
Xu Pei has a first-rate family, first-rate looks, and first-rate grades. You could say he's got all the advantages life has to offer.
As a result, he's developed quite the young master's temper.
Everyone who's seen him describes his looks in much the same way: debonair.
The kind of handsome that's refined, fierce, and intimidating.
He has two biggest worries in life:
First, he unexpectedly realized he was gay in ninth grade.
Second, there's a guy named Gu Yiming in Class Three, Grade Ten, who keeps competing with him for the top spot in their grade.
He can't change his sexuality, but surely he can do better in school.
All through his first year of high school, the two of them kept trying to outdo each other.
Then, in their second year, that guy went and switched to the humanities track.
They each took first place in their respective science and humanities tracks, so they no longer had to compete.
Xu Pei finally enjoyed two days of peace.
But less than half a year after they picked their tracks, that guy wanted to switch back.
From humanities to science? And the condition was that he had to place in the top five in their class?
His desk mate asked, "Xu Pei, what do you think about this?"
Xu Pei answered without hesitation: "What an idiot."

Gu Yiming noticed that his academic rival had been acting strangely lately.
It was one thing for him to stop taking his luxury car and squeeze onto the bus with him every day. Why was he looking at him more and more strangely?
Seats in Class Ten were usually assigned by grades.
After one monthly exam, Xu Pei's score plummeted, and for once he landed in the middle of the rankings.
Gu Yiming was so frustrated with him he could hardly stand it.
"Xu Pei, is there anything you haven't understood lately?"
Xu Pei had deliberately lowered his score and was feeling pretty pleased with himself. Hearing this out of the blue, his face lit up.
"Exactly! I don't understand! My place is spacious. Come over and tutor me!"

Xu Pei realized he might have fallen for Gu Yiming.
But the other guy seemed like he might be homophobic.
Xu Pei didn't know who to ask for advice, so he turned to his all-knowing big brother, Xu Yan.
"Bro, I like my deskmate. He's a guy. How do I pursue him?"
Xu Yan adjusted his glasses. "Throw money at him."
Xu Pei rolled his eyes. "That won't work on him."
"Then spend more time with him and drop hints little by little."
Xu Pei thought that sounded like a good idea, but before he could get excited, he started worrying again.
"But I think he's straight, and before... he had a bad impression of me."
"Then forget it," Xu Yan said, getting straight to the point.
"Damn it!"
