Zhu Linshan, an orphaned little beggar, is a little con artist who makes a living by swindling people.

He hears that some immortal cultivators have recently come to town looking for promising candidates with spiritual roots. Sometimes, kind immortals give food to the wandering beggars. Hoping to get more food, he also picks up a blind little beggar who is wandering beneath a dog's jaws.

"Hey, kid, want to go cultivate with me? I guarantee you'll live in luxury, and no one will ever bully you again."

Zhu Linshan has already made up his mind. There's no way he'll be found to have spiritual roots. Once he tricks this silly kid into making a pitiful scene in front of the immortals and gets two portions of food, he'll ditch him and run.

The good news: he successfully gets food while bringing along the skinny little blind boy.

The other good news: both Zhu Linshan and the blind boy are found to have spiritual roots.

One is a talent rarely seen in a century, and the other is a talent rarely seen in a millennium. Zhu Linshan doesn't get to run away; the immortals keep them both on the spot.

Listening to the immortals' sales pitch, Zhu Linshan takes a deep breath, crouches down, and picks up the little blind boy, who's been clinging tightly to his leg. He pinches the child's soft cheek.

"Come on, then. Let's go cultivate!"
