(A short story)
Qing Li is the youngest High God in all of Heaven. She has always been elusive, detached from the ways of the world.
To investigate the cause of her parents' deaths, she accepts a job no one else is willing to take: becoming the new ruler of the Underworld.
The Underworld is in disarray. Seven, eight, nine, ten gods sent there before her all quit in frustration, and the job finally falls to Qing Li.
It's only a position as ruler of the Underworld. Qing Li really doesn't think she's incapable of handling it.
*
She meets Shui Yi during the Lantern Festival in the mortal world.
She's the one who gives him the name Shui Yi.
In principle, as the ruler of the Underworld, she shouldn't interfere with the suffering or fate of mortals, but Shui Yi seems different.
He's half human and half ghost, without parents, and adrift in the mortal world.
In the end, she takes Shui Yi back with her, to Heaven.
She teaches him magic and helps him settle in.
Just as she's figuring out how to find Shui Yi a minor position in the Underworld, he kneels before her and begs her.
He says he only wants to stay by her side forever and look after her, and that he's willing to be her personal attendant...
