Wen Xing was a child who had run away from an orphanage.
There, they never had enough to eat or warm clothes to wear, and he was beaten from time to time. The director would also point at his nose and curse him, saying he was a jinx.
He gritted his teeth and ran away, only to collapse on the road. A coach from a figure skating club found him and took him in.
The coach had no wife or children and had spent his whole life focused on his career. He hadn't planned to raise the boy either. But by chance, he discovered Wen Xing's incredible figure skating talent, and his attitude changed at once.
"Would you like to always have enough to eat and warm clothes to wear?" he coaxed.
When Wen Xing instinctively nodded, the coach patted him on the shoulder.
"Great! Starting now, you'll train with me in figure skating!"

Everyone knew that Hua Country was a wasteland for figure skating. Its singles skaters went out on the ice just to make up the numbers.
But then a young skater appeared out of nowhere. At his first appearance at the World Junior Championships, he crushed competitors from every country with his unmatched technical advantage.
How long had it been since their men's singles skaters had stood on that podium?
Now, not only had he broken that embarrassing streak in his very first competition, he had also put up a result no one could have expected. He had won gold at his debut!
Countless reporters swarmed around him, their questions blending together until it was almost impossible to tell who was asking what. Facing such a scene for the first time, the boy seemed a little awkward, answering the questions he could hear as properly as he could.
"When did I start skating? When I was six."
"The quadruple loop? It came out a while ago."
"My relationship with Liu Yue? Brother Liu Yue takes good care of me."
Wen Xing paused when he heard the last question.
"My name?"
Unlike his slightly stiff answers before, his voice was clear and open as he answered, his eyes glinting with tiny sparks of light.
His face was that of a delicate, clean-cut boy, but his words were brazen and unrestrained.
"My coach told me..."
"The Xing in my name is the Xing of the Ziwei Star."

Wen Xing was still a little green when he won his first championship.
But soon after moving up to the senior division, he won his first World Championship title, and by then he handled interviews with ease. At the same time, one issue became hard to ignore.
"The skater least likely to be called an artistic jellyfish," some skating fans began to joke.
The remark could be taken as praise for his impressive technique, or as saying that even a dog would shake its head at his performance skills. Of course, under the current scoring system, this did little harm beyond giving internet users an occasional joke to make.
Reporters had also casually mentioned the nickname in interviews, but Wen Xing had never responded, simply smiling it off.
Was he content with that? No, he wasn't.
Just because artistic performance wasn't essential to competing didn't mean he could give up on it.
Although he still lacked performance skills, his flexibility was a talent unprecedented among men.
That alone was enough to turn things around.
So when Wen Xing competed in his first Olympics, everyone was astonished to discover that the Ziwei Star, whom they had been so eagerly anticipating that they had been exceptionally forgiving of him, had given them another surprise.
His blades traced the ice. Dressed in an ice-blue costume, the young skater drew the audience into his performance with a show of breathtaking artistry.
Perfect musical interpretation. Perfect choreography. Perfect technique.
He gave the world a magnificent visual feast and personally proved that the slightly regretful nickname no longer applied.
He truly had done it:
He danced on the ice.

He was the first flower to bloom on the wasteland in many years.
He was also the star high in the heavens, forever gazing down with pride.
