In the tenth year since transmigrating to another world, Mikazuki Yuzuru was approached by an entity calling itself a System. It told him that his arrival in the wrong world had caused a whole series of bugs.
"Please! If you'll go back and help, I can reward you once the world line has been corrected!"
"And I can even give you one chance to restart the timeline!"
Mikazuki Yuzuru glanced at the guardian his best friend had killed, then at that dear friend, who had already been locked away in a cat box, and agreed.

The winery's newest code-named member, Appletree, was devious and eccentric. Everyone who saw him gave him a wide berth.
Whenever anyone who had dealt with him talked about him, they wore an expression that mixed constipation with wariness.
"I don't know! He suddenly told me my hand-to-hand skills were terrible and needed work, then beat me up!"
"Last time, I was just gossiping with a friend about how he'd supposedly killed his mentor to graduate. He overheard me, and within days, everyone who'd ever taught him started taking turns using me as cannon fodder!"
"He seems to have a grudge against that Sherry from the lab... After Gin killed Akemi Miyano, he went straight for Sherry next. Bourbon, who was pretty close to the sisters, was furious, but neither of them could do anything about it!"
"That's not all. He was the one who sniped Scotland, right? Come to think of it, wasn't Scotland the one who taught him to snipe?"
"Is there anyone in the Organization he hasn't offended? Why is that lunatic still getting away with everything?!"
The System looked at the plot in utter disarray and was even more distraught than the winery's members. "Are you really sure this will accomplish the objective?!"
Mikazuki Yuzuru: "Just tell me whether the progress bar moved."

After going undercover in the Organization, Tooru Amuro discovered that the notorious Appletree was his classmate from the police academy.
The quiet, solitary boy from the academy had become someone else entirely in the criminal organization: a little madman everyone avoided.
Yet while Amuro remained on guard, the boy approached them of his own accord.
As if nothing had happened, as if they were still ordinary classmates at the academy, the boy asked them to join him on missions and pestered Hikari to teach him sniping.
They didn't dare refuse or ask questions. They spent several uneasy, oddly peaceful days like that, until one day, Amuro heard his childhood friend call him, sounding relaxed as he said:
"I asked Mikazuki about it. He said those rumors are false, so we can trust him."
His childhood friend's voice sounded so at ease that Amuro finally let out a breath of relief, too.
He wasn't asking for much. He just wanted Appletree not to report that they were undercover. As for anything else, well, they hadn't managed to move him back in their academy days, so he wasn't going to ask for more...
With that in mind, he figured he and the boy had reached some kind of unspoken agreement to coexist peacefully, and gradually let down his guard.
But he never expected that, less than a few years later, terrible news would hit him like a hammer.
He learned that his childhood friend was dead.
He went to confront Appletree in disbelief, but the other man wore the same maddening smile he'd had throughout the years they'd known each other in the Organization.
"Hm? You've heard the rumors about me, haven't you?"
"I figured my sniping skills had reached the required standard, so I took the final graduation test~ How was it? Pretty impressive, right?"
"Oh my... What's with that look? Are you angry? No way, no way, no way! You were sent undercover together, and you were actually such devoted best friends?"
As Bourbon slowly clenched his fists, the System let out a piercing shriek. "Stop talking! You already saved him, so why are you provoking him into going dark?!"
Mikazuki Yuzuru's smile never changed. "Are you sure I saved him?"
System: "..."
Wait, this guy had never actually confirmed in front of it that the faked death plan had worked.
...S-so that's how he completed the mission objective?!

[Reading Guide]:
1. Nobody gets killed. In a sense, this is a salvation story, though the protagonist is a little crazy.
2. The protagonist is a Detective Conan native, but he was raised by Geto, the cult leader. After Geto died, he worked for Gojo. Geto has an extremely important place in his heart. Just looking at his parental lineup should tell you... this kid's thinking might not be quite normal.
3. This blurb might be quite different from the previous version... but it's still the same story, just presented from a different angle.
4. The worlds don't merge. Everyone goes about their own business.
5. I'll add more if I think of anything.
