The Treacherous Minister Never Changes His Ways

Synopsis:

Pei Ji, born Pei Erwa, passed the imperial examinations at sixteen and entered government service. At twenty-five, he became chancellor, using the emperor to command the lords and wielding absolute power over the court.

Officials feared him, the people hated him, and even the children on the street made up nursery rhymes to curse him.

After ten years of enduring humiliation, the young emperor finally took power. He listed forty-eight crimes committed by Pei Ji, had him torn apart by horses, and wiped out his entire clan.

The people rejoiced!

Looking at the ending offered by this fellow who called itself the System, Pei Ji asked quietly, “Will the famine be ended? Will the wrongful cases be overturned? Will the northern tribes be driven back?”

The System was silent for a long while. “...No.”

Pei Ji suddenly smiled. “Thank you.”

“I won’t make the same mistake again.”

The System: “!!!?”

“I’m telling you to cozy up to the protagonist, change your doomed fate, and become a good person!”

Pei Ji’s smile widened. “Why would a treacherous minister give up power once it’s already within his grasp?”

All he’d done was monopolize the government, persecute loyal officials, and sell offices and titles.

He hadn’t even kicked the person on the throne off it. How could anyone call him a rebel or traitor?
