Princess Xu Yu of the South Sea Dragon Clan and her black-scaled merfolk consort had been married for thousands of years, but still had no children.
The Dragon King urged her, “My child, if you don't give birth soon, I'll have no choice but to give the throne to your cousin.”
Xu Yu glanced awkwardly at her wooden-headed consort.
Her consort cupped her hands in salute. “Father, don't worry. The two of us will keep trying.”
The Dragon King couldn't stand his son-in-law, whose face was covered in black scales and fish fins. He pulled his daughter close and wept. “My child, why not divorce her? I'll find you a merfolk from the East Sea instead.”
As everyone knew, East Sea merfolk, like the Dragon Clan, enjoyed getting frisky and had many children. The black-scaled merfolk of the South Sea, by contrast, were naturally wicked and abstinent.
Xu Yu soothed her consort, who was about to pick a fight with her father-in-law. “We'll… do our best to have a healthy child.”
Another hundred years passed, and Xu Yu still wasn't pregnant. With no other choice, she went to see the goldfish spirit, with whom she'd once had a relationship and who had since become her close friend.
The goldfish spirit said, “Princess, maybe the time just isn't right. You said your consort was strong and healthy, so why…?”
Xu Yu blushed. “Usually, I'm the one on top…”
The goldfish spirit stared at the delicate princess in disbelief. She never expected the princess to be the one on top! But still, was this really the sort of thing to tell her?
Her consort arrived with a weapon borrowed from a yaksha. “Princess, Father is looking for you.”
Xu Yu sent compensation money to the goldfish spirit's children. “I'm not going. I want to stay here a little longer.”
Her consort's fish tail slapped against the volcanic rock beneath the sea, while the goldfish spirit lost a few scales.
Xu Yu frowned. “What are you doing?”
Her consort couldn't stop herself from blowing out a stream of bubbles, her eyes furious with humiliation. “I'll flip this table, and you two can live happily ever after in the South Sea!”
Xu Yu and her friend were both stunned.
But her consort did not appear again for the next six hundred years.
The Dragon King was baffled. “My child, where did your consort go?”
Xu Yu wrapped her dragon tail around herself. “She doesn't want me anymore…”
.
Nan Qiyin had always believed that her marriage to the princess was arranged by their parents. Life after their wedding had been fairly smooth, except that they had no children.
The reason was that an old injury had left her unable to conceive.
The princess had never mentioned it, sparing Nan Qiyin's feelings.
Nan Qiyin wanted a child too, and sought help from all sorts of immortals in the heavens, but to no avail.
After the Dragon King pressed them yet again, Nan Qiyin had no choice but to ask her mortal enemy in the East Sea for medicine. She swallowed her pride and took the initiative to make love to the princess, but nothing changed.
When she learned that the princess had gone to see her old flame, the goldfish spirit, jealousy surged in Nan Qiyin's heart. Before she could even ask for a divorce, she ran away.
She went near the merfolk, and a new life began to grow in her womb.
Nan Qiyin wept with joy.
After a long pregnancy, she finally gave birth to an adorable daughter within two hundred years.
Having lost the comfortable life she'd enjoyed in the Dragon Palace and among her clan, Nan Qiyin took her daughter to the East Sea, where she sold fish and sang for a living.
When her daughter turned four hundred, her singing voice had become captivating. Nan Qiyin realized that attracting more and more sea folk and humans would only bring trouble, so she decided to return to the black-scaled merfolk's ancestral home.
Her daughter brought home an injured person with a haggard face. “Mother, can we save her?”
The scales on Nan Qiyin's body resonated with the dragon scales around the person's neck, and her cold expression softened. “Treat her injuries, then leave her by the shore.”
The little one couldn't bear to do it, but didn't dare disobey her mother.
A voice she hadn't heard in ages rang out. “Nan Qiyin! You abandoned my daughter, and now you've even had an illegitimate child! You owe me and my daughter an explanation!”
Nan Qiyin shielded her child. “There's nothing to explain.”
Xu Yu endured the pain of her wounds and asked, “Would you be willing to hear me out, at least?”
Reader's guide:
Take a seat and pick up your warning pins ↓
A delicate dragon princess who dotes on her wife and grows stronger later × a cool, fiercely capable black-scaled merfolk heiress who bottoms for love
The heiress occasionally tops, but since she gives birth, she probably bottoms most of the time.
Both virgins, one-on-one pairing
Childbirth
The merfolk setting is based on myth and legend. Readers who value strict accuracy should proceed with caution.
It's really just a story about a mermaid and a dragon princess who enter an arranged marriage, fall in love, have and raise a child, and discover how much they love each other.
If it's not your thing, don't read it. Stay or leave as you please.

Theme: Maintaining trust before and after marriage is probably what it takes to sustain an intimate relationship.
There are so many characters that I feel dizzy.
[Glasses][Glasses][Glasses][Glasses] It's hard to imagine Qiqi being really angry [covering face and peeking]
First time seeing this setting.
What a delicious copywriting. The author's taste is particularly exciting at first glance. I really beg you to write it.
