About 4,215 Kilometers from You

A road-trip story with two people and one car

From the neighbors' perspective, Cheng Jing had been a little troublemaker since childhood.

From the neighbors' perspective, Xie Zhining had been a kind, well-behaved, high-achieving good girl since childhood.

Cheng Jing never got praised, only scolded as a matter of course.

She vowed that when she grew up, she'd stay far away from Xie Zhining. After all, without comparisons, there'd be no hurt feelings.

After graduating from high school, Xie Zhining was accepted early by a university in the capital.

Cheng Jing was happier than anyone, sending her roses and setting off fireworks to celebrate, all while quietly applying to a university in the south.

After graduating from college, Xie Zhining went home to take over the company.

Despite her family's objections, Cheng Jing insisted on staying in the south to work, drifting from place to place and returning only when absolutely necessary.

They thought that, apart from seeing each other over the holidays, they'd never have anything to do with each other again. But one day a year ago, Xie Zhining appeared in front of Cheng Jing despite the thousand-mile distance, carrying a marriage agreement.

After being forced into marriage, Cheng Jing's greatest wish every day was to divorce Xie Zhining.

During an unexpected encounter at work, Cheng Jing couldn't help bringing up divorce again, and the two started arguing on the spot.

In a fit of anger, Cheng Jing said, "Our lives are different. Yours is all evening gowns and high heels, while mine is cameras and freedom. We're just not cut out to be together."

Xie Zhining's expression turned cold. "Why do you think our lives are different? Just because we made different choices?"

Cheng Jing said, "What else? If you want to try, then fine. We'll drive all the way from S City to L City, 4,215 kilometers. If you can handle the whole trip, I'll throw you a grand wedding at the end. If you can't, you can leave at any point along the way, and we'll get divorced when you do."

"Fine," Xie Zhining agreed.
