Before the Divorce

It was the eighth year of Ren Yan's relationship with her wife, Ji Mingqian. Her life had become nothing but routine and the comforting security of a peaceful happiness. She had achieved all the dreams she'd once had, one by one, but Ren Yan had lost the ability to feel joy.

Awake in the middle of the night, she gazed at her wife's sweet, innocent sleeping face, took out a cigarette, and held it in her mouth without lighting it.

A thought rose in her heart, growing clearer and more certain: she wanted to divorce Ji Mingqian and give up the "happy life" in front of her, as still and lifeless as stagnant water.

They had no disagreements, no third party, and no family standing in their way.

Yet it seemed this was as far as they could go.

Theme: After the quiet routine, the depth of love finally comes fully into view.
