A Taste for the Forbidden

Only later did Lu Xin learn that the thing keeping his family safe and at peace was a gu snake. The gu snake was lustful, and the family that worshipped it had to offer one person as a sacrifice. Otherwise, the poisonous creature would turn on them, and the whole family would die a gruesome death. On the first and fifteenth of every month, the gu snake coiled up in the rafters, waiting for its sacrifice. If no sacrifice came, it would slither down and hunt for someone alone in the dark alleys behind the street, killing them and sucking out their marrow.

Human desire knows no bounds. Once you get a taste, you want more.
