After much soul-searching, Dai Qinian resolved to seriously study character development and writing techniques.

A writing guide said: Popular characters can't stay the same. In other words, their personalities need to change. For example, they may be xxx early on and xxx later, or seem xxx but actually be xxx...

Writers also need to observe life carefully and jot down inspiration whenever it strikes.

Before long, an alpha from the neighboring class caught his attention.

The alpha had a striking appearance that set him apart from the crowd and was the dream alpha of countless omegas at school.

Most importantly, he was an alpha whose personality had the sort of contrast the writing guide described.

So Dai Qinian went straight up to him. "I want us to be friends."

That way, he could observe him up close every day.

My name is Gu Min, and I'm an S-rank alpha. I'm not particularly capable. I'm just extremely lucky.

I think my good friend, a beta who was my classmate and subordinate and now handles legal affairs, finance, and HR at our company, might have a crush on me.

Otherwise, why would someone like him willingly settle for a dead-end little game company like mine?

But deep down, I feel like it's unlikely, because I know my own limitations.

I'm just an ordinary alpha. And though he's a beta... Honestly, when someone is this incredible, with both brains and good looks, whether they're an alpha, beta, or omega hardly matters.

Besides, I'm technically his boss now, and we work in the same office every day. I'm very happy with how things are, and I hope he doesn't actually like me.

Wait! I just found out that my favorite childhood game got a remake!

Now I think I was worrying over nothing. Just pretend I never said anything!

My name is Fang Ruowen, and I'm a beta. I'm clever, and I'm confident I can do anything well.

I think my boss might have a crush on me.

Otherwise, there's no explaining why he keeps inviting me to his house for dinner under the pretext of making me come in to work, or why he's always giving me raises.

But deep down, I feel like it's unlikely, because I know exactly who I am.

Though... there's no getting around it. I'm just a beta. He's an alpha, and his family is incredibly, incredibly influential. His parents, brother, and sister are all major business magnates.

Besides, I'm technically his subordinate now, and we work in the same office every day. I'm very happy with how things are, and I hope he doesn't actually like me.

Sigh. I'm firmly against office romances. I would absolutely never do anything like sleep my way to the top.
