One world, one secret identity. The title is still undecided (I'm just hopeless at naming things).
[Injustice League - Gotham/Metropolis]
Metropolis and Gotham are twin cities, facing each other across the sea, one bright and one dark, born to depend on each other.
Their city spirits are twins, too.
Metropolis is sunny and cheerful, with brilliant blond hair and azure eyes. His smile brings to mind Metropolis's bright skies.
Gotham is quiet and gloomy, with short black hair and dark blue eyes. He carries a black umbrella all year round, lingering at every crime scene.
Now and then, in every corner of Metropolis and Gotham, you can spot two identical-looking twins with completely opposite personalities strolling down the streets. Metropolis animatedly tells Gotham about the amusing things happening around the city.
The subject Metropolis brings up most is Superman, while taciturn Gotham also grows more talkative when discussing his knight and prince, Batman.
Then one day, after Metropolis was hit by a nuclear explosion, Gotham permanently lost his other half, his brother, the other half of his soul.
In front of Superman and Batman, Gotham, who had never before appeared in public, let out a wail of grief, his voice as raw as blood.
[Bludhaven]
Many people say Nightwing used to be Gotham's Robin. Even though he later moved to Bludhaven to work as a vigilante, he still belongs to Gotham.
But Bludhaven's city spirit doesn't see it that way.
Sure, Nightwing goes back to Gotham every few days, sometimes patrols there at night, always returns to the Batfamily for major events, and even fills in as Batman for weeks at a time...
But Nightwing is his guardian, Bludhaven's bluebird!
Nightwing belongs to Bludhaven!
Since becoming conscious, Bludhaven has barely done anything useful. Most days, he spends his time arguing with Gothamites on the forums.
[Nightwing is Bludhaven's little bird, not Gotham's bat!]
After Nightwing showed up on another Gotham night patrol, Bludhaven finally lost his temper after Gothamites trolled him until he was seeing red.
One night, Nightwing was getting ready to head back to Gotham as usual, to check whether his adoptive father and obnoxious little brothers were still alive and kicking, when a cold presence silently appeared behind him.
A pair of arms wrapped around Nightwing's shoulders from behind. Their owner whispered in his ear like a damp, ghostly man: "Why did you abandon me... Why did you leave me... What does Gotham have that I don't?"
"Don't you love me anymore, little bird?"
[New York (TBD)]
Not sure whether to write this one. Marvel's copyright restrictions make things a little tricky.
[Metropolis (TBD)]
The Injustice world mainly features a Gotham secret identity. I'll see if I can come up with a fresh take for Metropolis.
[Reader's Guide]
1. This story came from a huge burst of inspiration, so it may include plenty of melodrama and soap-opera twists. Lately I've inexplicably grown very fond of drama and angst...
2. I'm not good at writing ensemble stories, so each world will only have one city secret identity (Metropolis counts, since he sacrifices himself before long).
3. Whether there'll be other city secret identities depends on inspiration... I kind of want to write Coast City. Make Green Lantern great again! Parallax really is so hot, but also so heartbreaking. Still, I've already written about Injustice Metropolis. (Sigh.)
4. Maybe there'll be a Lego city, too. (Joy.) After all, the real DC canon is Lego!
Theme: Caring for others is everyone's responsibility.
