Meng Huiqing is a three-tailed fox spirit with modest cultivation.

One day, a huge roasted fish falls from the sky and lands in his vegetable garden.

Just as he’s about to start eating, the fish’s eye suddenly moves.

Good news: The fish is alive.

Bad news: No roasted fish for him.

Good news: The fish is sentient.

Bad news: It has amnesia.

From then on, Meng Huiqing gains a disciple named Little Fish.

“Hehe, now I can be a master too and enjoy the lovely life of raising a little disciple~” Meng Huiqing thinks happily, wagging his tail.

The only fly in the ointment is that his little disciple never calls him Master.

A year later, Meng Huiqing sees his ungrateful disciple, who left without a word, in the Ninth Heaven. The immortals around him all call him Lord Xuanyao.

The God of War, Xuanyao, is injured during the battle between gods and demons and accidentally falls into the mortal realm, where he is saved by a fox from the wilderness.

The fox is beautiful, but also an idiot. Still, a life-saving debt must be repaid as best he can.

So when the fox spirit proposes taking him as a disciple, Xuanyao is unhappy about it, but doesn’t refuse. Because of their difference in status, however, he never calls him “Master.”

A day in Heaven is a year in the mortal realm.

When Xuanyao returns to the Ninth Heaven, he spots a familiar figure among the immortals who have come to congratulate him.

The eyes that were once full of adoration and dependence are now full of distance.

He hurries after him, and the words that slip out are: “Master!”

“Lord God, don’t call me the wrong thing. I’m just a fox from the wilderness. How could I possibly be your master?”

Xuanyao grips Meng Huiqing’s hand tightly. “Once a master, for life...”
