Zhang Luqing, a mortal spirit, worked diligently in the Four Pure Realms, enduring decades of exploitation by the various divine lords there. He even offered her pointers while she cultivated, greatly improving her spiritual power and techniques. More importantly, Luqing discovered that he seemed to be planning a formation that could eradicate the evil miasma once and for all.
Luqing saw hope and did her best to stay by his side, assisting and supporting him for decades. But over that time, she discovered that the Jueyang she'd known was only a facade. His reason for wanting to eliminate the evil miasma was a far more selfish one.
Jueyang's supposed "greater good" was a lie, but his formation to purge the evil miasma was real. For the greater good she believed in, Luqing still decided to take the wooden bead from the Shulin Pagoda and help Jueyang complete the formation, even though removing it would not only cause the Four Pure Realms to collapse, but would surely cost her life as well.
But just as Luqing was about to get the wooden bead, Jueyang suddenly appeared beside her and took her away from the Shulin Pagoda.
Afterward, Luqing questioned Jueyang about what he'd done and confronted him about his selfish motives.
Jueyang answered to her face, "At some point, all my selfish desires became you."
Zhang Luqing: "? I'm talking to you about the world, and you're talking to me about love."
