The Sharp-Tongued King of Showbiz

Nan Yi studied Taoism with his master in the mountains from a young age. At nineteen, he completed his training and went down the mountain, thinking his skills would be enough to keep him fed and comfortable. In reality, he was so broke he had to make a living telling fortunes at a street stall every day.

One day, he had just set up his stall and put out his fortune sticks, ready to call for customers, when a talent scout passing by looked up and was dazzled by his face.

The scout stood in front of the stall and tried to sell him on it:

“This variety show is so much fun. You’re guaranteed to become famous!”

“You’re so good-looking. It’d be a shame if you didn’t become a star.”

“Food and lodging are covered.”

Nan Yi quickly slung his little bundle over his shoulder. “Let’s go.”

On his first day in show business, Nan Yi used his first fortune to bring down a popular male star, his second to send off a famous director, and his third to predict a box-office flop for a rising film star.

Once the trending topics appeared, the entire entertainment industry looked at him differently.

Nan Yi: Well... this is a lot more interesting than telling fortunes about flowers, plants, and little birds in the mountains.

Until a prominent figure from the capital came looking for him. “You’re so good at fortune-telling, Young Master. Why don’t you tell me where my runaway betrothed is now?”

“...”

Nan Yi: “Senior Brother, quit messing around.”

His Senior Brother, who had already left the priesthood, turned around and calmly locked the door. “I’ve been waiting a long time for you to come down the mountain, junior brother. We pledged ourselves to each other when we were young. If you dare go back on your word, I’ll chase you to the underworld.”

Nan Yi: ...
