On the eve of the world's destruction, Afra hears someone singing a song from her homeland, and for the first time in ages, she remembers the past.
She came from the ancient East. She was a high school student who had just been accepted into the university of her dreams, and she had longed for light and justice.
But now she is a tyrant hated by everyone.
As the past unspools in her mind, Afra suddenly understands. She reverses time and returns to when she first came to this world.
This time, Afra does not want to become a tyrant, but she has no desire to become a beacon of justice, either. She chooses to lie flat and wait to die.
But the world plays a cruel joke on her: all her troublesome enemies retain their memories of the future.
The noble heir to the throne was stripped of his finery and paraded through the streets by her. The greatest mage had both hands crippled and was exiled. The knight commander, who considered dying in battle an honor, was beheaded and thrown into an abyss teeming with monsters. The pure and aloof Saint was blinded and imprisoned in a lightless water dungeon...
To put it bluntly, she has tormented every prominent figure in the capital. Some died; for others, being alive was worse than death.
And the first thing these people do after regaining their memories is find Afra and kill her.
☆
After learning that Afra would kill him, the Crown Prince used every connection he had to find her.
At that time, she was not yet called Afra, and was still being treated as a slave for others' amusement.
Looking at Afra, frail and weak, who did not even try to dodge his blade, the Crown Prince simply could not bring himself to strike.
He was not the only one. Those who had once been her enemies felt the same way.
They all believed that the girl before them was merely a pitiful soul struggling to survive, that she had done nothing wrong. Rather than kill her, they ought to save her.
But Afra was not the brazen, arrogant tyrant she would become. She was sick of this world. She did not smile or speak, and neither sought death nor clung to life.
They did everything they could to be kind to her, but could not stir even the slightest ripple in her heart, much less make her pull herself together.
All they could do was plead humbly: “What would it take for you to want to live?”
She did not answer.
