The Eunuch's View

Ye Zhiwei was the lowest-ranking pipa girl in the pleasure quarter, yet she was eloquent and quick-witted.

Her delicate face was breathtakingly beautiful, and her nimble fingers played melodies without end, captivating countless people in the capital.

But before Ye Zhiwei could figure out how to escape the cannibalistic Imperial Music Bureau and find some fool willing to rescue her from her misery, a eunuch serving the old emperor took her in as his eighth concubine.

Ye Zhiwei: ...A eunuch's concubine works, I suppose.

It was a little different from what she had imagined, but he was at least a powerful favorite of the emperor. Sure, he was missing certain functions and might be a little twisted inside...but he had power! Even provincial governors had to show him deference.

If she got on his good side, what was his would be hers.

The first time Lian Zhengqing saw Lady Ye, a secret desire began to take root in his heart.

He was disabled, and she was lowborn. They were simply made for each other.

But only Lian Zhengqing knew that he was unworthy of this dazzling pearl.

She was clever and perceptive, with a sharp mind. If she wanted the moon in the sky, someone would gladly pluck it down for her.

He was nothing but a filthy eunuch, and even catching a glimpse of her from afar felt like too much to ask.

He hid behind the bead curtain, watching her in silence.

Just one more look. Just one more.

He wanted to merge her into his flesh and blood, devour her into his very bones, and never part from her, in this life or the next.
