The Yun family had served as chancellors for three generations. Yun Xie was the most dazzling prodigy in the state of Yan.

In the year Yan and Xuan went to war, the defeated state of Xuan sent its crown prince, Lin Jue, to Yan as a hostage. Yun Xie took pity on him for being so young and alone, and looked after him in every way.

For the next ten years, Lin Que followed him, learning poetry, literature, and martial arts from Yun Xie.

Ten years later, Lin Que returned to Xuan.

That day, snow fell thick and fast. With the jade pendant he'd stolen from Yun Xie clutched in his hand, Lin Que could not bring himself to leave.

Later, a coup in Yan's capital brought down the Yun family's prodigy.

Yan fell into civil war, and the Yun family was wiped out. Even Lin Que, far away in Xuan, heard the news.

That day, ignoring his trusted advisors' desperate pleas, he traveled day and night and dug Yun Xie out of a pile of corpses, barely alive.

The Yun family had been slaughtered. Yun Xie was the only one to crawl out of a mountain of corpses and blood. The once-gentle young man, as beautiful as jade, had become a ghost, neither fully alive nor dead.

Yun Xie thought he was using Lin Que.

He used Lin Que's power to take revenge and fulfill his ambitions, never realizing when he began to fall for him as well.

"Que means a palace gate. Zique, I'll help you take it back."
