Watching a Summer Night

Lin Hong is the only daughter of a prominent official's family.

Her mother died young, and she was sent to live with her maternal uncle's family as a child. Only when she was eighteen, after her father remarried, was she brought back home and introduced to her young stepmother.

The woman was fresh and radiant, smiling sweetly with an alluring charm. Standing beside Lin Hong's father, who was nearing the end of his life, she looked like a green bamboo next to a withered pine.
