In the apocalypse, Tang Xianling awakened the “Food Spirit Root.” With extreme cold and heat making it hard to grow grains and vegetables, this ability was as useless as “a clever housewife with no rice to cook.”

After transmigrating, he became an ordinary widowed husband in the streets of the Rong Dynasty. His father was on his deathbed, his mother was timid, and his in-laws showed up to extort money, turning the blame back on him. The family was so poor their pockets rang hollow. All they had left was half a courtyard fit to live in and a storefront that had been shuttered for half a year, its mutton soup and boiled bread shop gathering dust.

The neighbors sighed over the Tang family’s miserable state, fearing it wouldn’t be long before they had to sell off their remaining property.

Tang Xianling was just waiting for someone to come to their rescue when he bought the Tang family’s courtyard and shop.

Tang Xianling rolled up his sleeves.

No need to rush. He would take care of things one at a time. First, he’d have a good meal.

The Tang family’s boiled bread shop reopened, and its owner went from Old Tang to Young Tang, the widowed husband.

“What? You’re not selling mutton soup and boiled bread anymore? What are you selling, then?”

At first, the little Tang family storefront sold breakfast: flatbreads with preserved mustard greens, pork floss bread, egg-filled pancakes, jianbing, meat-and-vegetable stuffed buns, century egg and pork congee, sour plum soup…

Customers came in droves, enchanted by the aromas. After one meal, they were already wondering what they’d eat there tomorrow.

Later, the little storefront became a restaurant.

Boss Tang also got married. His new husband was a handsome man, literate and skilled in martial arts, a little younger than Boss Tang. Word was, he came from a good family. Huangfu was a fine surname, but why was his name Huangfu Tieniu?

A little too rustic.

The five flavors of life are sweet, sour, pungent, bitter, and salty. A full belly, warm clothes, and a loved one by your side: that’s happiness.

Tomorrow, April 19, the story goes VIP. Three chapters will be posted on the first day. Thank you all for your support!
