Noble lady x descendant of rebels
At the Lantern Festival, a fairy with a white veil covering her face composed the first half of an elegant poem at the Qianxi Tower. Xie Mingshu answered with a lewd, bawdy verse. The woman was not offended. Instead, she tossed the bright red embroidered ball in her hand into Xie Mingshu's arms.
At first, Xie Mingshu thought she was an official's daughter who seemed proper but was actually rather improper.
They met again on a battlefield in the countryside. The woman chased her runaway horse for ten miles, then forcibly pulled Xie Mingshu into her arms. Only then did she see that the phoenix hairpin in the woman's hand had pierced the horse's rump, leaving her hands and face covered in blood. She said, "If you were a man, this hairpin would be in your neck."
Xie Mingshu used her hand to touch the exposed side of her own neck. The woman smiled and said, "But you're a woman, so I'll give it to you as a token of love."
At that point, Xie Mingshu thought she was a heaven-blessed lady fiercer than the wildest horse.
It was not until rebels infiltrated the capital and they met again at a lavish banquet, glittering with luxury and filled with clinking cups, that Xie Mingshu learned the woman she secretly adored, the one everyone admired and looked up to, came from a noble family. Every gesture of hers was a model of feminine propriety.
She was the perfect woman, molded by the rules of propriety, and the virtuous, gentle wife that the sons of princes and nobles dreamed of marrying.
Xie Mingshu also learned that she would soon marry the crown prince and become the future empress.
Xie Mingshu never could have imagined that the woman she longed for day and night was a caged bird, carefully raised by her enemy.
1. The style is old-fashioned. The two have always been mutually in love. There are no melodramatic, bloody family feuds forcing them to kill each other. Both women are strong, honest about their feelings, and know where they stand.
2. No specific dynasty. The author's historical knowledge is limited, so please be kind about historical accuracy.
