Summer Nights in Jiangcheng: A Republican-Era Mystery

(Please add That Summer Night in Jiangcheng [Republican-Era Mystery] to your reading list. It features crossover appearances by major characters from the previous story.)

(The story is told in the third person from the heroine's perspective. The "I" appears only briefly at the beginning and end of some cases.)

I was born in Jiangcheng, Wuhan, and work at the Police Museum. By chance, I found a yellowed wedding photograph. The man and woman in it were both strikingly handsome.

They opened a detective agency during the Republican era and solved many baffling cases.

The man had a pair of beautiful phoenix eyes and an elegant air. He returned from studying abroad when he was young and had a reputation as a playboy. He could do it all, from horse racing and boxing to cricket fighting. Yet he went on to solve one strange case after another, becoming a legend in the field.

The woman wore a pure white wedding dress and held a bouquet. She looked quiet and serene, like a fresh lychee just peeled, and was renowned as a "female Zhuge Liang." A mathematics graduate, she was especially sensitive to data.

To bring their long-buried story back to light, I began visiting the places where they had once solved their cases, hoping to reconstruct those thrilling, dramatic adventures from long ago...

Case One: The Tomb of Ten Thousand Infants, the Tower of Bones

Case Two: Liangdao Street, the Gold-Digging Case

Case Three: Greater Hankou, the Double-Nail Case

Case Four: The Dragon King's Wrath, Jiangcheng in Ruins

Note: Happy ending, both leads are each other's first and only.

Theme: Though the night is dark, she lights the way.
