Unlimited inline comments are now open] Story blurb: On the first day she swapped bodies with Nishinoya, a classmate she only knew from afar, Kuri E displayed her extraordinary way of thinking and calmly declared, “Just because our bodies have changed doesn’t mean our lives have to.” Kuri E: “So I’ll carry on being myself, and Nishinoya can do anything he wants with my body. Go ahead.” Nishinoya: “...!?!?!?” Don’t say things that are so easy to misunderstand! * Whatever the cause, the two had at least become acquainted through their clash. Their bodies automatically switched back early the next morning, and life seemed to return to its usual calm. But the body swap didn’t end there. Kuri E carefully recalled Nishinoya training and playing in matches. A flicker of emotion crossed her eyes, and she made up her mind: Coach, she was going to play volleyball too (no, cross that out). She was going to be a libero! * Not long afterward, a new member joined Karasuno’s volleyball club. Off the court, she was aloof and solitary, ignoring everyone equally. On the court, she was lively and outgoing, enthusiastically high-fiving everyone, with tiny flowers of joy practically floating around her. “One more ball!” Her teammates: “Who taught her to play? She’s developed a split personality, for crying out loud!” Nishinoya, from the boys’ volleyball team next door, proudly puffed out his chest. Their guardian deity was about to have a successor. But with all those relationship buffs stacked up, as her guide, senior, and close friend, even Nishinoya occasionally found himself unable to handle things and taking a hit. “I became interested in volleyball because I like you, Nishinoya.” One day, Kuri E gazed at him calmly. Nishinoya’s eyes went wide. He froze on the spot, barely managing to catch that powerful direct hit. Kuri E pressed her lips together. “As I thought, if it’s you, Nishinoya, you’ll definitely be able to catch every ball securely.” Nishinoya clenched his fists, blushing and flustered as he replied, “Yes! I won’t lose!!” Kuri E tilted her head. “In volleyball and in love?” Nishinoya, eyes wide: “!!!” As it turned out, even someone as simple-minded as Nishinoya knew you couldn’t treat playing volleyball as a date. But he couldn’t refuse when she insisted on playing. * Reader’s guide and disclaimer: 1. A standalone story, no crossover. Romantic comedy, friendship, and sports competition. The pairing is with Karasuno’s super libero, a pure 1v1 happy ending. 2. As the title suggests, this features a body-swap trope, with intermittent swaps. It mainly focuses on daily life, with some original match scenes, but not many, and they aren’t there just to pad the word count. It won’t depict matches from the original series, and the original plot remains unchanged. If you can’t accept this and think something like “using this trope in a sports anime denies the athletes’ hard work,” feel free to leave. 3. The issues mentioned in point two won’t occur. The title’s trope is the cause, and all body swaps take place outside official matches and special training, causing no negative effects to the athletes or delays to their training. No further spoilers. 4. (Loudly) I love the characters from the original series, who will always shine, and I love the spirit it conveys. I can’t make this fanfic’s core spirit match the original, because it’s simply a straightforward romantic comedy, an easygoing story that won’t offend anyone. Still, I’ve written it with care. I’m not trying to elevate it into anything profound, only to do what I should: not distort the original’s intent, respect every character and their original love of the sport, and honor their souls, which will always be beautiful and optimistic. 5. I’m not a volleyball expert. I only play for fun, so please don’t scrutinize the research too closely. 6. Trope archived on April 28, 2024. Theme: It’s hard to live without regrets, but people have boundless freedom.
