Beast Taming + Fourth Calamity + Game Invasion + Mysterious Resurgence + Slightly Creepy
#
High school student Ru Nian was spending winter break at home when he discovered an MMORPG single-player game on his computer: The World.
Gorgeous character art, a new era after the mysterious resurgence, and a world where humans team up with divinely gifted pets to explore, defeat enemies, and uncover lost civilizations.
The pets in the promotional art were so adorable that Ru Nian bought the game without a second thought.
Humans needed to meet two conditions to form a contract with a pet. First, they had to be at least twelve. Second, they had to pray to the gods. It could be anywhere at all, as long as they were sincere, and they would receive a one-of-a-kind pet and become a beginner Beast Tamer.
To form contracts with more pets, they had to work hard to become intermediate Beast Tamers!
As a player, Ru Nian wanted to get a one-of-a-kind pet of his own, so of course he went to the summoning screen and mixed together whatever attributes he liked~
A little cute, a little charming, a little gentle, a little intimidating, a little mysterious... Wait, that's too much mystery!
A rainbow-colored black light flashed, and a pair of eyes flew out of it. No, a butterfly.
Ru Nian: ...?!

After falling in love with The World and becoming a Beast Tamer, Ru Nian's most frequent sayings were:
If you can gang up on them, don't fight alone. If you can run, don't try to prove yourself. If you can play dirty, don't fight fair.
A one-man team, driving an off-road vehicle from the game, he lived a carefree, happy life. He took whatever quests he wanted and explored whatever secret realms he pleased. Everyone called him the "Demon King."
Behind the scenes, one wanted notice after another was issued for him, and the bounty kept climbing.
Then one day, he went downstairs to pick up a delivery and saw a Beast Tamer Hunter from The World on the street. It was the one who was best at catching him.
Good news: He could pet those adorable pets.
Bad news: The Beast Tamer Hunter had a stack of wanted posters, and Ru Nian was at the top.

Only after Ru Nian turned over a new leaf did he learn that ninety percent of the names on the wanted list were players. He'd made it to the top because everyone ahead of him had been caught.
He was the last one left, and the one living the most carefree life of them all.
"Are you saying you can catch me whenever you want?"
"..." Who'd want to go after a great demon king like you? Are you tired of living? "No, it's because the person who put a bounty on you ran off without paying."

1. The protagonist is a mild-mannered player who occasionally acts like a little menace. Don't view the story through the eyes of its supporting cast or random passersby.
2. The protagonist's pets are all uniquely adorable, with just a touch of the uncanny. You've got that to look forward to.
3. The protagonist's love interest is the person best at catching him. They're the same age. I'm a fan of younger tops, so same-age is my final stubborn insistence.
4. The protagonist isn't invincible. Players really can get smacked to death by BOSSes. Romance starts in adulthood. The plot takes precedence over romance, but I promise there will be no melodrama or misunderstandings between the couple.
5. The characters aren't perfect. I'm not sure if it'll be hot-blooded, but I am sure it'll be unhinged.
6. Ru Nian (nian).
7. I'll do my best, so please don't put me on an abandoned-play schedule. Take a look at me once a day, okay? QvQ
8. Both the protagonist top and the protagonist bottom are adorable little things. Yep!
Theme: Cuteness is an essential part of the world's sugar intake.
