Jiang Tunan received a strange message.
[Husband's dead. I've cleaned up the blood on the floor. The bone soup is in the pot. Hurry home. The kids and I are waiting for you in the bowl.]
Everyone she met urged her to go home: Auntie Wang at the village entrance, Auntie Shen who sold eggs, Grandpa Liu the knife sharpener, and even the college student who'd just returned to the village to serve as its Party secretary...
Their faces were all lit up with warm smiles, but blood and bits of meat clung to their teeth.
Yet this batch of college students returning to the village seemed a little different.
They hovered behind Jiang Tunan, restless with anticipation. Some asked, mouths watering, whether the bone soup was really safe to drink. One scolded them for always choosing junk food, with seasoning jars hanging from their waist. Another couldn't bring himself to look people in the eye, but when Auntie Wang approached, he let out a piercing shriek and kicked her twenty meters away.
The others said nothing, but their gazes toward the neighbors were no friendlier.
Jiang Tunan merely smiled and led them home.
In the dead of night, a foul smell of blood seeped from the dilapidated house deep in the village, impossible to ignore. The neighbors stared at the moon and swallowed hungrily.
People are ruled by desire, and often make the ugliest choices. When desire reaches its peak, it's harvest season for the village.
But what they saw the next day were the neighbors' mangled limbs, tossed out the door.
At the entrance to the old house, Jiang Tunan sat on a little stool, a bone knife buried in her right side, drenched in blood and looking like the King of Hell himself.
Only later did they learn that what had been amplified in Jiang Tunan was her desire to protect.
[She's a monster! You could stab her ten times, and she'd still strangle you to death without even furrowing her brow!]
Panic spread quickly among the neighbors.
Seeing their terrified faces, Jiang Tunan insisted she was innocent.
[But I really have been unable to feel pain since I was a child. If you're afraid of me, why not be afraid of my adorable teammates instead?]
Here's a preview of my upcoming infinite-flow novel about college students transforming into saviors. No tired formulas or copycat tropes, so please take it home! Oh my goodness, I'll start posting once the full manuscript is over 50% complete, so I won't leave you hanging. My lovely patrons, don't worry!
Theme: If this is a grand adventure from which there can be no turning back.
