Do boys from Crime Alley ever look up to Gotham's Batman?
Blurb:
There isn't a boy in Gotham who doesn't look up to Batman and his Robins. Jason still remembers huddling with his friends as a child, watching the shadow of a bat skim overhead.
The daring boys picked up battered Batarangs from the corners of the street, chasing after Batman and trying hard to grow into dependable adults.
Back then, they dreamed impossible dreams, thinking only of growing up and leaving behind the place that had brought them nothing but pain.
Later, Jason accepted the olive branch Batman offered him, and his friend shouldered a pack and set off to study. Their childhood fantasies really did come true. Beneath the moon in Crime Alley, the two boys toasted one another and wished each other bright futures.
"We'll both have bright futures."
But the boys seemed to forget that while a boy from Crime Alley could chase an unlimited future, Gotham's little bird would never leave his home.
One day I wondered whether Jason had any friends while he was growing up on the streets of Crime Alley, and this idea came out of it. It's probably a story about an ordinary Gotham native with no golden finger, struggling to make this city a better place?
P.S. 1. The timeline is a mess. Canon purists, enter at your own risk.
2. Written on impulse, with no outline. It probably won't be very long.
3. No romance, just friendship. No imaginary friends. The protagonist is not one of the Batkids!
4. Lots of headcanons. Warning: the protagonist dies. Warning: bad ending. If it's not to your taste, stop reading in time.
5. Anything that doesn't make sense is the author's fault. The superheroes belong to their original creators; any out-of-character writing is mine.
