Shen Mo, a botany professor at University A, is a cold, aloof man who treats knowledge as his lover and never gets involved in romance.
Under pressure, he has no choice but to marry Chi Luobai, his betrothed since childhood, and endure a marriage that exists in name only.
Chi Luobai is a spoiled young master. Good looks are all he has going for him, and he is always clumsily trying to take care of Shen Mo.
But Shen Mo remains cold toward him.
Over time, their relationship grows worse. Cold wars and arguments become a part of daily life.
Then one day, Shen Mo can take it no longer. He decides to separate and divorce, seeking freedom.
He grabs his luggage and heads for the door, only to find it blocked.
Chi Luobai looks at him with tearful eyes. "I'm going into labor."
Shen Mo: ...?
*
Shen Mo discovers that his marriage partner is actually a little mushroom.
He's carrying little spores and claims that "pregnancy is hard" and he needs "his wife's affection."
Shen Mo decides to stay for now and take responsibility for what he must do:
Study mushrooms.
He plants Chi Luobai in a pot, keeps him in water, and even starts scheming about the little spores Chi Luobai gives birth to.
Chi Luobai covers himself and gazes at Shen Mo with tearful eyes. "They're your children."
Shen Mo: ...When did that happen?
*
Chi Luobai asks Shen Mo to wait until the little spores grow into human form before divorcing him.
Shen Mo agrees. He takes care of Chi Zhou just as Chi Luobai once took care of him.
They carefully nurture the little spores. When they are nearly fully formed, Chi Luobai gazes at him with tearful eyes once again:
"There's only one last step."
He suddenly pins Shen Mo against the door. Strong as can be, he flashes two little canine teeth as he grins.
"Make a real spore with me."
Notes:
1. This is a nontraditional "gong gives birth" story. The spores are the couple's children, and the mushroom gong reproduces.
2. The shou is a beautiful, rational, celibate type; the gong is a mushroom, sweet and soft like a puppy, with a slightly scheming side.
3. Marriage first, love later. The blurb and title may be slightly revised later, but the basic premise won't change.
Premise: Treasure the genuine affection in your life.
