The Empress's Fourth Marriage

Dugu Jingtan was the daughter of a disgraced official and grew up in the Jiaofang Bureau.

Though born low, her ambitions reached for the heavens. She was not content merely to leave her lowly status behind and marry a good man.

At fifteen, she married Rong Shuang, the seriously ill Marquis of Huai'an, in the hope that the marriage would bring him good fortune.

Before a year had passed, Rong Shuang died of his illness on his thirty-fifth birthday.

Widowed, she married Shen Jieqiu, the Grand Secretary.

After three years of marriage, Shen Jieqiu, twenty-seven, lost in a factional struggle and died on the road to exile.

Having secured her divorce papers early, she finally became empress to Emperor Tianbao, Zhu Chun, who was in the prime of youth. Her unstoppable life began.

--- [The Male Lead's Perspective] ---

I spent ten whole years studying Empress Wende in the history of the Zhao dynasty. I was fortunate enough to transmigrate three times and glimpse the real woman behind the historical records.

The first time, I was Rong Shuang, Marquis of Huai'an. After drinking the poisoned congee she fed me, I died on my thirty-fifth birthday.

The second time, I was Shen Jieqiu, Grand Secretary. She shot me dead on the road to exile. I was only twenty-seven that year.

The third time, I was Zhu Chun, Emperor Tianbao. During the Battle for the Throne, I was captured by an enemy kingdom, and she supported my mentally disabled younger brother as the new emperor.

She abandoned me three times, yet I couldn't bear to stop loving her.

--- [The Female Lead's Perspective] ---

He should return to his distant homeland, not stay with me to guard this thoroughly rotten dynasty.

He is the crown prince of Great Wei, five hundred years in the future.

I am the last empress of the previous dynasty.

I abandoned him three times because I was afraid of falling in love with him.
