He's Changfeng Sect's top sword cultivator and is praised by everyone in the cultivation world as Immortal Chengyu.

He's also Ye Huaizhao's senior brother.

He's kind and courteous to everyone, but goes out of his way to avoid her.

He seems to hate her, too.

She snorts and turns to leave. "Like me or don't, I don't care."

But she never expects Xie Chiyun to travel hundreds of miles and corner her in a secret realm.

The golden crow sinks in the west. Fireflies light up the crimson mark between Immortal Chengyu's brows, like blood on white porcelain.

He looks up gently, his voice mild. "Junior Sister, how far are you going to run?"

Ye Huaizhao still can't get rid of her archenemy.

That's because they've been infected by a Soul-Linking Gu.

The Gu has two effects:

First, the consciousnesses of those infected are linked, allowing them to sense each other's thoughts when their emotions run high.

Second, when the Gu matures after two hundred days, those infected must share mutual feelings and merge their consciousnesses in an intimate union. Otherwise, the Gu will devour their consciousnesses, leaving them crippled.

Ye Huaizhao's master says, "Dual cultivation can cure it."

At first, Ye Huaizhao only wants to get rid of the Gu and then go their separate ways.

Later, she thinks: Well, at least her senior brother is handsome. It can't hurt to look at him a little longer.

Before Lingxun left the mountain to gain experience, her master looked at his sweet, innocent little disciple and said:

"You have a senior brother. He's gentle, courteous, modest, and respectful, and exceptionally talented. He comprehended the Sword Dao at sixteen and broke through the Spirit-Treading Realm at eighteen. He's now the sect leader of Di Ting Sect, hailed as the greatest sword cultivator under heaven..."

Lingxun's eyes light up, and she eagerly says, "All right, Master! I'll make sure to get on Senior Brother's good side. If I get into trouble outside, I'll just give them his name!"

Her master nods, pleased, then adds, "...Also, he's one of the villains who drove your master out of the sect, acting against his elders with wicked intentions."

Lingxun: "...Huh?"

Thinking of Di Ting Sect's network of spies spread across the world and its ruthless methods, then looking at her master, who has spent years in hiding and living a miserable life, Lingxun falls into deep thought.

The good news: A ridiculously powerful senior brother has appeared out of nowhere.

The bad news: Senior Brother betrayed the sect, and now he's trying to wipe it out.

Lingxun: "All right, I'll do my best to revive the sect under the evil senior brother's oppression!"

Many years later, her master emerges from seclusion and asks an old friend for news of his little disciple. He hears that she's safe, rose to fame out of nowhere to claim the top spot on the Azure Cloud Ranking, and even stopped a demon apocalypse. He lets out a sigh of relief.

He strokes his beard and nods with satisfaction. "Excellent. That's my good disciple. Compared to that traitor Suyang, she's so sweet and sensible, so upright and kind!"

His old friend hesitates, not knowing what to say.

The next day, the master is abducted in a daze and brought to the inauguration ceremony of Di Ting Sect's new sect leader.

The traitor is tied up beside him, smiling as he looks at him. "Long time no see, Master. Are you here for Junior Sister's inauguration, too?"

Master: "Get lost. I don't have a disciple like you."

Master: "...Wait. Who did you say became sect leader?"

His sweet, innocent little disciple rushes over excitedly. "Master, I've figured out how to revive our sect right under Di Ting Sect's nose!"

She unfolds the "Voluntary Abdication Letter" written in Suyang's own hand and says matter-of-factly:

"I just have to kick him out and become the sect leader of Di Ting Sect!"

Usurping power is a fine sect tradition, after all!

Suyang hears that the master he overthrew has taken on a little disciple.

At first, he doesn't care, watching indifferently as the new junior sister, who has appeared from who knows where, charges headlong through the treacherous cultivation world.

Later, he thinks that since they're fellow disciples, he might as well help her out now and then.

Later still...

Beneath the gentle moonlight, with a long sword at his throat and those bright, sparkling almond eyes fixed on him, Suyang thinks:

I inherited everything from my master. Why shouldn't that include my little junior sister?
