Wen Youzhou transmigrated.
She no longer quite remembered the exact reason she had transmigrated. She only knew she had a nightmare from the start.
The world was ravaged by war, and the people were destitute. As an orphan with no parents, Wen Youzhou had little chance of surviving in this world, until a fellow child beggar told her that there was an immortal mountain in the world, where immortals lived.
By a stroke of luck, Wen Youzhou crawled out of a mountain of corpses and made it to the foot of the immortal mountain, where a kind-hearted person took her in.
After that...she was found to have five spiritual roots. She was told she could cultivate, but that her progress would be slow. For over a decade, she worked diligently on the immortal mountain, picking up trash and corpses along the shore every day.
But then...
She met her.
The wheel of fate began to turn.
She was a mermaid, breathtakingly beautiful, lying on the beach, barely alive. Anyone could have killed her with ease. She was waiting for judgment.
Wen Youzhou could have handed the mermaid over to the sect like everyone else, in exchange for cultivation resources. Or she could have sold her on the black market for a fortune, then left the mountain to become a wealthy merchant.
But she didn't. Acting on a selfish impulse, Wen Youzhou hid her inside her clothes and brought her back to her own room.
When the mermaid woke, she kissed Wen Youzhou on the lips. After they spent a night together, she led Wen Youzhou onto the path of cultivation. The two formed a marriage bond, and the mermaid promised to take her to her homeland. There, under the gaze of the God of the Sea, she would hold a grand wedding with Wen Youzhou and receive the blessings of all creation.
Wen Youzhou believed her and let the mermaid go.
After the truth came to light, the sect elders tortured Wen Youzhou during their interrogation, then killed her.
"Do you have any regrets?" a voice as ethereal as the heavens asked.
Wen Youzhou: "I do!"
When she woke, she found herself reborn. Then she heard the child beggar ask, "Boss, are we still going to the immortal mountain?"
"Yes! Of course we are!" Wen Youzhou answered without hesitation. Given another chance, how could she give up? She still hadn't found her mermaid. She still hadn't gone home with her to have their wedding. How could she not go?
"Boss, didn't you say we weren't going?"
"Someone owes me a promise. I'm going to collect."
"Wow, Boss, you're amazing! You can even collect a debt from an immortal!"
Wen Youzhou smiled without replying. She was already calculating how long it would be before she met that mermaid. This time, she would never let her get away.
To the ends of heaven and the depths of the underworld, you won't escape me.
It's just that Wen Youzhou seems to have forgotten that mermaids are the kind of creatures who lie, seduce, and steal your heart.
