The Queen's Epic [Western Fantasy]

Someone once asked Lucinda, the Supreme King who united the seven peoples and nine kingdoms of the Spiritlands: “At what point in your epic life did you first decide to accomplish such a great feat?”

King Lucinda thought for a moment, then replied, “I suppose it began when I secretly left home alone, hoping to study at Ashina Academy, only to be hunted down along the way.”

Young Lucinda: ...Getting chased and nearly killed right after running away from home. How thrilling.

No one could have guessed that this would be the opening chapter in the life of a legendary emperor:

The apprentice being hunted down unexpectedly won the academy headmaster's support. From earning the right to represent the academy in a battle tournament, to winning the all-academy battle tournament across the Spiritlands; from winning the Second War of the United Peoples, to founding her own empire and uniting the Spiritlands.

King Lucinda smiled slightly. “Let us begin this story with that mysterious hunt.”

The loyal and devoted guardian knight, the enemy nation's duke who was both friend and foe, the proud and beautiful object of a political marriage... People in later generations speculated endlessly about Queen Lucinda's love life. They wondered, “Could someone like Supreme King Lucinda have truly loved anyone in her life?”

The epic says nothing about it. The only thing left behind was King Lucinda's own declaration:

“I am the ruler of the Spiritlands. My first priority in life is to serve the well-being of every living being in the Spiritlands. Love is nowhere near as important as my mission. No personal feelings are anywhere near as important as my mission. It will always be so.”
