[I just scrapped 150,000 words of drafts for this and plan to start over]
[For now, I haven’t managed to sort out the worldbuilding, so I have no choice but to put this story on hold. My sincere apologies.]
[This blurb is only a rough guide, and the story differs in some places. I’ll rewrite the blurb later.]
Feng Mei, a first-year student at the Joint Military Academy.
Ever since enlisting, he had been a rising star in the military, admired by everyone.
But just as he was about to finish his academy training, he received a notice from Lanford. On the front it read “Dean”; on the back, “Critically Insane.”
You’re awake! The operation was a success.
You’re now the strongest insane person on the planet, and the dean on the side.
-
Feng Mei was diagnosed with “amnesia.”
Everyone said he was humanity’s strongest. At twenty-five, he had been promoted to colonel, just one step away from becoming the U.C.A.’s top officer.
His legendary exploits could fill three days and three nights of storytelling.
But Feng Mei himself knew nothing about them.
His memories stopped on the day he entered the academy at eighteen. He had just received his ID card as the top-ranked new student and was eagerly waiting for the dining hall to open.
But all he could see now was a stark white hospital room and fellow patients watching him like predators.
Feng Mei: “Hi, everyone?”
Fellow patient: “Draw your gun!”
-
At Lanford, the only way for patients to get discharged is to duel the dean.
Any means are allowed. If you can beat the dean, your discharge will be approved and you can return to normal life.
After humanity’s strongest became dean, Lanford grew busier than ever.
Someone hung from a light fixture, baring their teeth as they waited to ambush him.
Someone dressed up as an office plant, waiting to ambush him.
Someone tried to get into a relationship with the dean, waiting to ambush him...
Feng Mei: “Can’t we just enjoy life in the asylum?”
Fellow patient: “Give me liberty or give me death!”
Feng Mei: “...”
The dean snapped his fingers and crushed everything into ruins. “Good. Die, then.”

There was good news after good news from the sanatorium, while the world outside was in turmoil.
As the enemy grew ever more rampant, humanity and the U.C.A. finally remembered the missing top officer.
When a distress message arrived at the sanatorium,
the dean sent back his pay raise request:
“Save the world? Sure, but it’ll cost extra.”
-
Reader’s guide:
1. This is not a power fantasy, and the protagonist doesn’t have an unlimited golden finger.
2. There are tons of supporting characters with all kinds of allegiances. People inside and outside the sanatorium may not be entirely sane.
3. The protagonist is a ham and a scoundrel who loves putting on an act. In many people’s eyes, he is their lost white moonlight.
4. Includes genderbending portrayals and forum posts shipping characters, as well as a few characters with unrequited crushes. Please proceed with caution. The protagonist stays focused purely on family, friendship, and his career from beginning to end.
5. The worldbuilding is entirely my own. It’s a space setting with supernatural abilities but no mecha. The author is illiterate.
