Sheng Qi is a low-level employee at the Worldbuilding Administration Bureau. Bound to a Pairing System, he is responsible for playing the roles of important supporting characters in books during their CP interludes.
The novel's protagonist bottom has a tragic background and endures countless hardships, the protagonist top wavers painfully between choices, and the fake young master turns dark after suffering a devastating betrayal. The whole story revolves around the three of them, their lives out of alignment, and the physical and emotional torment they endure.
Sheng Qi only has to play three minor background characters, fulfilling the author's need to pair off important supporting characters: a marriage-first, love-later pairing between a wealthy CEO and a decorative spouse; two workplace professionals, a psychiatrist and a family doctor; and a campus pairing between a handsome heartthrob and an upperclassman in a shared dorm.
Though he has the same face in all three roles, Sheng Qi moves along the edges of a rich-family novel's love triangle while playing three different identities. He's convinced that as long as he appears infrequently enough, nobody will see through him.
But gradually, Sheng Qi realizes that supporting characters might not need CPs after all.
The doctor wants to study abroad, the heartthrob wants to make his debut as the center of the group, but the CEO wants to go on a dating reality show?
Sheng Qi: Great. We all have bright futures.
Shang Sheng had been perfectly happy with his polite, arranged marriage.
