A Frame-Dropping Romance

"Hello, I'm Song Jiayin from April 1, 2018!" Song Jiayin fiddled with the DV camera she'd just unpacked from a mysterious parcel and recorded a video. Then she turned it off and restarted it. A new video appeared in the camera's album. Song Jiayin turned up the volume and pressed play. In the video, he frowned and introduced himself with a puzzled but earnest expression: "Hello, I'm Jiang Heng from February 28, 2018." There should have been so many questions. Why had a video he recorded 32 days ago appeared in her DV camera's album right now? Was it an April Fools' prank, a mix-up in the space-time continuum, or some machine malfunction? But Song Jiayin, replaying the video over and over, couldn't bring herself to think about any of that just yet. The thought turning over and over in her head was: Wow, Jiang Heng is so handsome she's about to faint. 💿 In 2018, I couldn't send you the snow that fell at the end of spring. Apparently, bassist Lin Zeshu had run his mouth and driven the drummer away. Not long afterward, a transfer student rushed into the rehearsal room clutching a pair of drumsticks and announced that she was the new drummer. "Mai Qi. You can all call me Mai Mai!" She introduced herself with a smile, not looking much like someone who played rock music. At first, Lin Zeshu didn't think much of her. Then he couldn't help paying attention to her, and eventually he was always jealous. He hated her sunny disposition, hated her musical talent, hated her smiling eyes. So he started avoiding Mai Qi. He never expected Mai Qi to come right up to him, looking pitiful. "I don't think things between us should be like this anymore. If you're willing, would you like to try changing that?" Her heartfelt confession was so earnest it made him feel awkward. Lin Zeshu didn't know how to turn her down, so he reluctantly agreed to date her. On their 100th day together, Lin Zeshu booked a restaurant to celebrate, with cake, candlelight, and flowers. Licking the frosting, Mai Qi asked, puzzled, "Why are you taking me out all of a sudden?" "It's our anniversary," he said, pursing his lips. "You and me?" "Since when?" "How did I not know?" Mai Qi's eyes widened. The band ground to a halt again. This time, apparently, the drummer had dumped the bassist. Theme: Uphold the One China Principle.
