I Was Still Beautiful Back Then

Early spring, at Chirpy Exotic Pets.

Wang Xinyan, an exotic-animal veterinarian, has just arrived at work when an unfamiliar man walks in without a pet.

There's something vaguely familiar about him. Xinyan gives him her standard smile. "Hello. How can I help you? Where's your pet?"

"I don't have a pet." His gaze settles on Dr. Wang's face.

"Then are you asking on behalf of a friend?"

"No." He answers decisively, his eyes turning thoughtful.

Dr. Wang ponders for a few seconds. "Have we met at the last Asia Pet Expo?" Could he be a pet-supply dealer?

"No." He kindly offers a guess. "Maybe at the civil affairs bureau?"

Xinyan's brain freezes for a second, but then a lightbulb suddenly goes on in her mind. "Hello, Mr. Chen."

"My surname is Shang."

You don't read your favorite book just once, and you don't fall for your favorite person just once.

They say that lessons in life you haven't learned will keep coming back. They're tests from the universe. So is a boy who looks like your first love, the one you loved but couldn't have, making a limited-time comeback in your more mature years also a test from the universe? What is fate, anyway? Could a coincidence after all these years really be nothing more than a chance to meet again? She remembers how beautiful she was back then.

For adults, love can begin with marriage.

At the best age of your life, don't lose the ability to love. Bet everything you have and win the rarest of luck.

We each have our own stories, but that doesn't stop us from writing a new one together through the life we share.
