Kou Fuli sat on the phoenix throne in the Jiaofang Palace, with a circle of beauties seated below her. They called her, “Your Majesty, Empress.”
When Kou Fuli awoke one day, she discovered she had become the Empress.
The Empress: the pinnacle of status for a woman in ancient times. But before she could even celebrate, Kou Fuli realized there was something off about her position.
Her father, Kou Que, was the Grand Marshal of the court, powerful and high-ranking. He had been granted a princely title, could wear a sword and shoes in court, enter without hurrying, and be praised without having his name announced.
To rise even higher, Kou Que had installed a new imperial clansman as a puppet emperor and married several of his daughters to him. Kou Fuli became the Empress.
The original owner's disposition was gentle and virtuous. After several years in the palace, she had only one daughter.
Her elderly father’s ambition to “rule the realm through his grandson” was common knowledge. Every few days, he sent word to Kou Fuli to hurry up and bear a legitimate heir.
The puppet emperor wasn’t content to remain a puppet, either. He dreamed of wiping out the entire Kou clan, and was currently trying to win Kou Fuli over.
Choose your political team:
- A. Cling to your biological father’s coattails and work your way from Empress to Princess. Risk making your family wary of you.
- B. Become an angel investor in your puppet husband and give it a try. Maybe if your father dies, the emperor will remember the old days and keep you as Empress?
With wolves in front and tigers behind, either choice would make her someone else's pawn. There was no future in it.
Kou Fuli thought it over. She could take a chance and turn a bicycle into a motorcycle. Whatever she chose, it would be better to make a grand play of her own.
For instance, she could become a force to be reckoned with and get herself an emperor's throne?
